Month of reading Day 1 · 9:29am Jan 2nd, 2015
So, my friend Adren is challenging everyone to read one million words in January, and since i'm sick as a dog I can't concentrate to write. So, i'll read. Each night i'll give an update to how much i've read along with a very short review of the stories I have read.
First, lets take a look at my read later list it has wow. 272 stories. Welps, lets see how many I can get through shall we?
Luna's Exciting Day
By EHeroFlareNeos
Word Count: 3696
Okay, so this was written, when we had no idea about Luna's personality. So, I can't say that she is out of character. I can however, say that the rest of them were. The fact they didn't recognize Luna or remember her bothered me quite a bit. In the end, it's a cute idea but reads like a bad play I really cannot recommend it.
Verdict 2 out of 10
The Purple Menace(s)
By uSea
Word Count: 4616
This story made me laugh several times. It was a neat idea, which was full of puns and references. The basic idea is that, after being gone for 1000 year Luna, asks Spike, for his help in pranking her sister. Unfortunately for Celestia, the dragon ambassador is visiting that same day!
Verdict 7 out of 10
Well, I think that's enough for tonight. I started with 272 stories I now have 270
Words remaining: 5,065,764

Challenge accepted
Been binge-reading yesterday and today and managed to get through the first two parts of the Time Loop Trilogy by Eakin.
37,399 words: Hard Reset
Twilight experiments with a timespell she found in some notes of Starswirl. In doing so she inadvertently creates a kind of 'save game' to which she will be reset in case she dies. And she dies a lot - due to a changeling invasion that begins mere hours after that point in time. She has to save herself from the endless loop and also Equestria from being burned to the ground (oh, and the entire universe being obliterated as well).
It's an unputdownable trip through the madness of the countless iterations of the same events which Twilight tweaks ever so slightly each time to reach her goals. True to the subject matter, those tiny tweaks may have tiny but also monstrous results. The first person perspective makes it all the more hard-hitting. It has a 'dark' tag for a reason, but it's also at times heartwarming and frequently hilarious as well. Oh, and the whole cast is completely in character.
This one immediately got a place in my all time favourite list. 10/10
70,648 words: A Stich in Time
The sequel to Hard Reset; featuring a Star Swirl summoned by mistake and a Twilight/OC romance. The events in part one have left their marks on the very framework of the universe and this needs to be fixed.
We get a LOT of Equestrian history and background magic knowledge.
Star Swirl is a jerk. Twilight does romance the Twilight way. Pinkie gets a job as guest narrator.
It's sweet and hilarious with a lot of Spellcrafting in between the beautiful character studies. It doesn't have a 'dark' tag; but one and a half chapters are definetely deserving of one (to be fair, the author warns you beforehand and you can skip it). This part is utterly fascinating and utterly horrible.
The OCs are very good all in all but there is room for improvement. Maybe they're just overshadowed by the brilliant main cast though. 9/10
Now off to part three: You Can Fight Fate with 61,759 words.
Hey, where did that essay come from?
Get well soon Foals!
Hope you feel better, Errand!
One million words, eh? That sounds like a nice challenge. I've been looking for a reason to start on Fallout: Equestria Project Horizons. I guess I have one now
Hm... I bet I could do this challenge! xD Imma give it a try, god knows I have enough in my read later.
But in all seriousness. I hope you feel better soon Foals!
Oh, you're on. One million words, don't make me laugh.
