Holy Shit! It's Damn Near 2015! · 4:51am Jan 1st, 2015
Greetings, me pirate crew! Been a while since I made one of these, so thought I'd go ahead and see how y'all are doing.
The Captain has been well. It's been a busy holiday season and I've been fighting the Fula good chunk of it, but it's been good to be home again. Christmas was nice this year too. I'm not usually one for gifts of luxury and prefer practical gifts, so for the most part I get pragmatic things like gift cards, a new laptop (now I can finally write without it freezing up every four or five characters!), and a sum of cash. Pretty much the only two things I got for pure fun were Far Cry 4 and Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. The former is... good... admittedly I liked its predecessor a great deal more, but that's a review for another day and the game is still pretty fun. And as for Black Flag? Easily one of my new favorite games. Again, I'll go into detail next time a write a game review, but nothing made me feel like the regal buccaneer I am more than taking a Spanish man o' war.
Also, I can't believe I haven't noticed this til now, but holy shit I hit 100 followers! Awesome! In all the bustle of finals I guess it just slipped by me. I want to genuinely thank all 114 of you, and not in the shallow, just being polite way. I am proud to have each and every one of you on the glorious crew, and looking back this has been a hell of a year. I have met so many of you in this year and come so far, from forming genuine friendships with you, my fellow scholars of literature, to writing my first rage review and making a name for myself as a critic. I wrote my first complete fic this year, wrote my first clop fic this year, and wrote my first story under the influence this year- all on the same fan fiction! I have learned so much, especially from you guys, and if just wanted to tell ya'll that you mean a lot to me.
Now, enough of the lovey dovey business before this old salt starts to go soft. As for what you can expect in this next year from me looking forward, I will hopefully be a bit better about publishing frequently and fully this year. While this last year I have gotten good at writing thorough reviews in a timely fashion, and I have learned an immense amount about specifically what types of stories are successful on this site, my Achilles heel without any doubt has been posting content on time and finished. With the exception of the oneshot I wrote (and that was only cause I was on some serious meds) I wasn't able to publish any original content that came to fruition. There are multiple reasons why stories were sparse this year, but it mostly comes back to two sources. Firstly, my fraternity took up a great deal of time this year, mostly due to my tenure as the Sergeant at Arms of my chapter. I have now stepped down from the position, handing it off to a highly capable successor, and now have little responsibilities beyond paying dues and giving a fair share of work, so problem one solved.
Problem two is a bit more... complicated. I naturally am, at the same time, a procrastinator and a literary perfectionist. This is a deadly combination, because not only does that mean any project is going to take more time for me, but that time is extended even further due to my obsession with perfecting what I write before publishing. I'm trying to overcome these traits, in daily life as well as my writings, so while I won't promise anything or give release dates, you can expect to see more stories from me in 2015. I know for a fact All Along the Watchtower will come to fruition this year and later, you can expect other titles I've hinted at, like The Seventh Soldier, A Pirate's Life for Me, and Of Covens and Convents.
So, yeah. I'm going to go continue to get hilariously drunk with dearest folks. From the bottom of your dear old captain's heart, accept the warmest gratitude and wishes of a happy new year.
With steadfast loyalty,
The Pirate King
