Homebound Ch11, Act 1-2 Interludes, and Future Projects. · 7:46pm Jun 26th, 2012
Well. Act 1 of Homebound is sort of done, now. At least for the main story. I still have to finish those interlude chapters, which as I said before, will involve the cadets/Art on Equestria. It'll also have a completely different plotline than the rest of Homebound, and will more-so be based on comedy than action or drearyness. Don't expect the "Sad" tag to come into play there.
Oh, and on the "Sad" tag: I realize that Homebound currently isn't very "sad", and there's a reason for that. First off, I want to say that stories with the "sad" tag normally overdo it and just make it absolutely depressing as soon as possible. That's not what I'm trying to do. The sadness in Homebound is more like a constant pressure on your chest that slowly grows until you feel like your ribcage is collapsing. Or maybe a slowly shrinking room that threatens to crush you into a tiny square, fleshy box. Point is, the sad part of Homebound has yet to arrive, and most likely it's going to be a constant underlying theme than constantly getting punched in the face by sad stuff.
So just bear with me. The depressing stuff is coming. :) Act 2 will mostly be about introducing the galaxy from the Wing's perspective. No spoilers, though.
I can't promise the interludes soon enough, though, because I'm currently working on different projects. I know having more than one writing project is normally a bad practice - God knows it's bitten me in the arse before - but I can't help but /really/ want to do Plotline before anyone else gets the same idea. I've already said what I need to say about it. It's a Western-ish Conspiracy themed story with a few HiE/SI elements tossed in to mix it up a bit.
So, yea, basically Plotline is my obligatory Self Insertion Story that everyone does at some point in their lives. No, Jackson Amber from Homebound wasn't a self-insert, even though the actual character began as one several years ago (and has since progressed through varying stages of character development, to the point where the only trait we share is the uncanny ability to be cynical about everything on the planet, or in his case, the galaxy.)
Plotline is only a temporary title, though, so I might/probably will change it at some point in development. The entirety of the story will take place in Dodge Junction and will involve trains. Yes. That Dodge. The one from the show. I really want to emphasize a slice-of-life-comedy feel, and stick to the show's feeling as much as possible during it, albeit in the Pratchettesque writing style I want to do it in. The story will also not be revolving specifically around the SI character, and he'll hopefully be acting more like an observer to the town than an intruder.
There are also a few one-shots I want to do. Possibly a specific one for each of the main six + Spike, surrounding the theme of x vs y.
Like Spike vs Bees.
And, as for the Real Life, I have a few obligations this summer. I'm planning on shooting for a part-time job at a local theater, and I've got to study up for my driver's license at some point. If I get the job, activity will probably drop a bit.
This has been your cynical Box Overlord, Rets. Signing off.
