I don't think it would work to be honest. When you use a character that has little to no personality, you have to give them one. When you do that, it no longer becomes the original character, and becomes a manifestation of your own ideas given towards the characters personality. Just not a good idea in my eyes.

191948 Are you NUTS? Donkey Kong is a Laid back Gorilla who has an obsession with bananas, and has Diddy Kong as his Best Friend/Nephew (I think Best friend). He has a love, who is (now) Candy Kong (Shudder) and can get angry as possible.
If THAT's not Personality, Then I dont know what to tell you. DK's A COLORFUL character. He is:
1) Laid Back as they come
2) Obsessed with fruit (Durr Monkey)
3) Get's angry when he sees his food stolen.
In fact, DK was an Inspiration for Graham, my Character in my Story, along with Mario as a Base.

Donkey Kong is accidentally sent to Equestria, where he thinks he's still on the island with Diddy on board. They notice Ponyville, sees they have food, gets obsessed with said food, and the Mane 6 have to stop him.
Just a random thought, But I'd sure love to see Rainbow Dash try, just TRY, to take a watermelon from him and Diddy. :3
