What is the Smiling Stallion? · 11:16am Nov 18th, 2014
What is this project?
This is a story idea I am working on with previously made chapters that will be released at a later time. It takes a few concepts from the horror movie: Cabin in the Woods with a sort of Ground Hog's day effect.
How did this project get started?
The idea originated when I was listening to a reading of Something Sweet to Bite by Knackerman when the idea of a creature that could be a rival for the stories Candymare started coming to mind. Thus the Smiling Stallion came into existence.
As time went on I started coming up with ideas based around Cabin in the Woods. I had always been curious as to how that story would have been different if the kids had picked some other horror movie based item. I also started to remember back to how I was introduced into the MLP fandom which was by grimdark tales like: Cupcakes, Rainbow Factory and Shed.mov.
Who/What is the Smiling Stallion?
The true identity of the Smiling Stallion is unknown. Is he a pony with supernatural powers or something else?
Aside from the fact that he is a gray stallion that smiles a lot and enjoys finding ways to cause fears the only thing known about him is that Celestia continues to send her troops to capture him.
What is the story?
Twilight, her number one assistant Spike, the other members of the Mane Six, and the Cutie Mark Crusaders go to a cabin in the middle of the woods to work on things for the following Nightmare Night. However things are not what they seem as someone is watching them and pulling some rather dangerous strings.
Do you need help with anything?
Well, when I am closer to being finished I will need the help of a proof reader and editor for this story. I would also like some constructive feedback on a few chapters.
When will this be released?
I was planning on releasing this series around August 2015. That is if of course I finish it and I am still alive by then. However I will probably post a preview for the people watching my deviantart page (perhaps I will even give my watchers here a sneak peak).
What is this talk of "DLC chapters?"
In the story some thing are put in game terms and part of the story does have a game built into it. So DLC chapters are chapters that come later after the story has been fully released, that expand upon the story/universe. Think of them kind of like side-stories.
So there is a sneak peak out?
Why yes, indeed there is. The first chapter is currently available on DeviantArt for viewing. Just follow this link to be DA page: Smiling Stallion Sneak Peak.

Well, I hope you all enjoyed this and I hope to hear from you all soon.
All though I'm too busy to be an editor or proofreader, I'd be happy to check out a few of the chapters!
2603001 Great! I will let you check some out when they are closer to being done.
2603096 Ok!
I am thinking of making a private group for a few people who just want to help each other on stories in a more private setting. Just not sure if people are able to see forums if they aren't part of the group.
It's an interesting idea. Tell me, does the Smiling Stallion draw any inspiration from The Man Who Laughs?
2711895 If he does I didn't know about it. I will have to look into this 'Man who laughs' story... thing. Is it a creepypasta or something else?

The Man who Laughs was a popular silent movie made in the 1920's based on a book of the same title. The titular character was a British nobelman who's father offended the crown and was subsequently sentenced to death in the iron maiden. However, this was not before The king commanded a doctor to surgically mutilate his son, locking the boys face into a permanent and ghastly grin so that he would be forced to forever 'laugh at his fool of a father'. Though the movie is a romantic melodrama, not a horror, it strongly features expressionism that was popular in silent films of the time that renders it dark, gloomy, and striking.
The movie has been cited as partial inspiration for the character of the Joker, who is a character I feel needs no explanation. The look, of course, is one copied by Jeff the Killer and Smile Dog, but there have been many ghouls with faces locked in rictus grins. The name the Smiling Stallion just put me in mind of one of the oldest examples.
2712404 Well, sadly I haven't seen it but I did look it up on Wikipedia. I will say that the Smiling Stallion's grin isn't caused from mutilation. It is just something that everyone who meets him recognizes him by (for some it is even the last thing they see).
By the way if I haven't said this before I am a great fan of your work.
