    Important message about Suicide

WARNING: Discussions, however brief for the sake of tact, about self-harm and suicidal thoughts are in this post. People especially vulnerable to such should ensure they are in a good headspace before reading. This sort of trigger is no joke.

    Chapter 56 Promo!

In an isolated, abnormally large, hollowed-out tree might not be the typical abode for megalomaniacal n'ere-do-wells. Though, there was a reason both of them had opted for current accommodations over the typical kingdoms and castles, in one form or another. The area was absolutely inundated with dark magic. From the eerie glow that some of the plants gave off, to traces of black aerenth crystals

Tarbtano Rambles about: Thoughts on MLP · 12:36am Nov 3rd, 2014

Q: What got me into watching the show?
A: I actually had bumped into Hasbro's Equine antics before, such as when I babysat my cousins and they watched Gen 3 and I think some Gen 1. But what made me go "You know what, I'mma watch technicolored tiny horses" was the constant memes I saw sprayed around while playing Team Fortress 2. I was curious where it all was coming from, so I went online and looked at some stuff about the same time a friend was doing the same. She and I sat down and watched a few episodes (Season 1 was ending at the time) and we were hooked. It took me back to my childhood and that was a grand feeling.

Q: Who was your least favorite villain?
A: Discord. Ok hold your pitchforks and torches! Let me explain. As a CHARACTER, Discord is fine. He plays a good trickster, has a good voice casting, and can be very entertaining. As a villain though, I just can't find him intimidating at all. I can't precisely say what makes a good villain, but two crucial elements in my book are
A. Are they powerful enough to be a threat?
B. Do they act on that power to be a threat?
Discord definitely has enough power to be a threat, but he never acts on it. He's easily one of the strongest characters in the series, but he never gave me the implication he was an actual threat. If anything, before I came to like him, he came off to me as weirdly designed, mary-sue power tiered OC. In time I did come to like him, but as a villain he still doesn't do well enough for me.

Q: If I were to put any previous generation character in The Bridge, who?
A: Considering Tirek and Scorpan now are in Gen 4, probably Star Catcher from Gen 3. As much of a... well.. that... Gen 3 was, Star Catcher reminds me a lot of Celestia and her design was pretty. If I had to put her in somewhere, probably be as a historic character.

Q: Who is best Princess?
A: Sorry 'Lunatics', I always liked Celestia best. Blame me growing up with a stellar older sister that Tia reminds me of a lot and some scorn at the constant bashing I kept seeing Tia subjected too by some of the fandom that I kept bumping into.

Q: Name something about the fandom you love
A: How generally accepting and polite everyone is. I know EVERY fandom has it's jerks and nice people, but I haven't found a single one as welcoming in as the Bronies and Pegasisters. I have a friend who has anxiety issues and even would get panic attacks in school. But going to a MLP Con, they felt so at home and welcomed that there wasn't a single issue with them all day. If a fan group can pull that off, I know they are something special.

Q: Name something about the fandom you dislike
A: Just going to clarify, there is next to NOTHING in this fandom I actually hate. Hate is a very strong word for me so it takes a lot for me to hate something. But, if I had to pick, it be wildly OOC renditions of characters when it's NOT done for comedy. Now let me clarify.
Alternate interpretations to characters are completely fine. Using the material we do have about something and filling in the blanks of in areas we don't know I think can make for great story telling. Many of my favorite authors here do it all the time, and I've done it quite a few times myself. But it's when people take those changes too far, disregard canon entirely, and then staunchly attack those who oppose their imagining of something I think there is a problem. Now when this is done for comedy, like the infamous spoof videos like ''Shed.mov''; it can be hilarious. But, there is some lines I draw.

The biggest causes of this dislike by far is the fanon's reactions to the Diarchs. When I saw people turning Luna into a gamer and Celestia into a trickster, I didn't mind too much. Was original, was amusing; fine with that. Iiiiit's when I noticed the 'Tyrant Celestia' and 'Waifu Luna' surge that flared up particularly in Season 1 and 2 that rustled my jimmies. The 'Freedom Fighting New Lunar Republic vs. the Tyrannical Solar Empire' (let's not pretend WHO was supposed to be the good guys in that storyline wasn't f***ing obvious) REAAAALLLY had me snorting out smoke. Original storyline are 99/100 times a fantastic idea, and civil wars can often be a very human, very emotional backdrop for drama. But instead of taking the chance to show a tale of Grey vs. Gray morality where both sides have a point, it instantly fell into the 'Wafu Jesus Luna'-'Tyrant Celestia' dynamic with a very clear good and evil side. Original thought none the less, but not my cup of tea and fell short of how good it could have been in my mind.

Guess what got to me was how NONE of the canon traits were present or even acknowledged. Tia was just turned into a power hungry monster and Luna (& often by proxy Nightmare Moon) were turned into Do-Nothing-Wrong Martyrs. Never mind it's more likely that Luna, hailing from a more archaic time and not growing up with the social changes of the modern era, would be the less likely of the two to enact a republic. Or the fallacy of how suddenly Equestria is split 50/50 when a vast majority of the populace grew up under Celestia and would more likely follow her into any civil war than someone they until recently thought was a myth. Or the biggest plot hole of all in that neither of the sisters have shown anything BUT kindness and love towards each other.

But that's not what gets me steamed. Like 'The Conversion Bureau', the 'Equestrian Civil War' stories are not my cup of tea but I live and let live. I may not like it both others do, and I'd want them to have their fun. And then some of these folks don't just let their view live and let live, but they attack others for not using their version of the princesses. Heck, I've gotten hate mail before for NOT turning Tia evil and for giving both princesses flaws, not just Tia. Wat.

Jeebus where did this filibuster come from?

I'm an, as you put it "Lunatic" and even I can agree that the whole tyrant Celestia was taking it too far. While I will always think of Luna as best princess I still don't think Celestia deserves any hate.

Before eqg2 best pony (now its sunset shimmer) to me is was luna and I am still a lunatic but yeah I would have preferred gray vs gray for nlr vs se like in the thousand year change I think its stilted either the se is shown as tryranical monsters and nljr are shown as mislead crazed loyalists and I don't like celestia but I have reason she constantly manipulates twilight in to doing her bidding and putting her and 5 untrained mares in constant danger never sending them any kind of military assistance da fuq celestia are you mad

Just to clarify, I do not dislike Luna AT ALL. I just get annoyed at some fanon interpretations people start trying to ram down my throat.

2570949 i didn't ssy that i was agreeing with you about that one princess is shown to be better than the other in the most extreme way

I'm aware. You or anyone else can have them portrayed anyway you wish. My beef was with people hate mailing me (and yes I can post if if you want to see it) for NOT making Celestia a manipulative tyrant in my story or not making Luna borderline perfection on hooves.

I like Celestia more. I find her to be motherly and I can't help but smile. Luna is cute but It was quickly seeping away. I love this fandom but it has flaws.
