Luna, Titles, and Deserted Islands · 10:01pm Oct 23rd, 2014
So, a lot of the feedback that I've been getting is that my story is pretty unoriginal. Sorry about that. I didn't do it on purpose.
One of the marks of this is apparently Luna's disuse of her title 'Princess'. I didn't realize this was a thing. No. I'm serious.
I was a bit disturbed by this, though. Luna not using her title was not an arbitrary decision. Her rejection of her title is part of the mounting evidence of her frame of mind. I mean, think about it; does a person in solitary confinement choose to call herself Ms Garcia? Dr. Krishnamurti? Lady McKenna? When you are by yourself for so long, such things loose their meaning. Why would I choose to maintain my title of 'Doctor' or whatever when there's no one to be a doctor to? The title becomes meaningless.
This is why Luna rejects her title. It isn't out of humility, it isn't out of some populist sentiment, and it certainly isn't because Luna is trying to connect with Twilight. It's because the title, the very word itself, has become meaningless to her.
This may change in the future, of course. Things usually do.
This brings me to something else which occurred to me as I was trying to describe what I had written, and how Luna was. It never occurred to me as I was writing, but it must have been a subconscious inspiration, because as soon as I thought of it, everything crystallized.
That thing? The movie Castaway. Look at Tom Hanks' character at the end of the movie as compared to the beginning. At the beginning, he's part of the world, part of the rat race. He is like anyone else.
At the end, he no longer fits into the world, but it wasn't the world that had changed, he did. Little by little, over the course of the movie, all the nonessential part were stripped away. All the social niceties and necessities were removed one by one until there was nothing left, just him.
At the end he no longer belonged to the world of people. He was displaced. Irrelevant.
Meaningless.
Now take away the cycle of day and night, the tides, the need for fishing and the need for survival.
Now multiply it by a thousand.
That is the Luna we see staring at the Moon. She's been deprived of everything that ever mattered. Even her last shred of armor, Nightmare Moon (and make no mistake, Nightmare moon was protection for Luna), has been ripped from her by Twilight and her friends.
She's laid bare. Flayed open. Stripped to the bone. There is no more 'Princess' in Luna. There's no more anything in Luna.
She's empty.
Meaningless.
This is where my story begins. This is where Luna is when Twilight visits her on the tower.
Of course, ideas are dandy, but ultimately I have to execute on them. I hope in Luna's words and actions you can see how deep the damage is, otherwise I've wasted your time and mine.
I personally just recently found your story. And me being a very big fan of Twiluna since forever. My very first Twiluna fic i read was Apotheois. And soon therafter came other shining gems like Moonlit sparkles and Common sky. I love this shipping to the death, and frankly i personally do not mind your writing at all. People want something rare these days but they fail to see how hard it is to truly come up with original ideas. Yours is one of the Original Twiluna fics that i've had the pleasure of reading. With it taking place extremely soon after she's been freed from the Nightmare. The old Equestrian speech. The loneliness. The Broken Princess. And in comes Twilight to help her and as the story progresses. Becoming something more to Luna than just a friend. This leaves sooo many future possibilities viable. If they already are Marefriends before she comes to celebrate Nightmare Night in Ponyville, just that gives you at least a thousand different twists you could spin in your own version of that particular episode. I really do hope this will be a very long story. Because i'm here for the entire ride. And i am very interested to see where you will be going with this. You have yourself a "Watcher" Keep up the amazing work. And i do hope you update it regularly.

I have the story complete, more or less. There are 13 chapters in all, and I was planning on a weekly schedule for releasing chapters. Barring anything catastrophic, they should go up like clockwork.
Thank you for your feedback and words of praise. I'm honestly a little overwhelmed at the response I'm getting with this story. Nothing else I've done has garnered this much interest.
Thanks for reading. I hope, as things continue, it does not disappoint.
