So I'm about to rant. One of the most annoying things that characters can do is BOTTLE UP THEIR FREAKING EMOTIONS. I mean, seriously, LET IT OUT. Like in the new Septimus Heap book, the main character, Tod, who is a girl by the way, NEVER CRIES. Okay, SPOILERS, STOP NOW IF YOU'RE GONNA READ THAT SERIES. OR POSSIBLY OTHER THINGS. Had to get that out of the way. Well, her mom died when she was little, her dad disappeared at sea, her best friend disappeared, her aunt is evil, she nearly got kidnapped my evil monsters, and she left her home and went somewhere strange far away and faints, wakes up somewhere new, gets kidnapped and wrapped up in freezing cold monster slime, is insulted by a princess, AND NEVER ACTUALLY LETS IT OUT. IT ANNOYS THE CRAP OUT OF ME. I mean, they're not going to think you're any weaker JUST BECAUSE YOU SHOW EMOTION. I mean, I bet that at the end of the three books, there's gonna be like ten chapters of just her lying on a couch sobbing and pitying herself and eating chocolate. Just QUIT BOTTLING IT UP, GIRL.
Okay, had to get that out. Something else that annoys the crap out of me is when they keep secrets from their friends. Like in The Lost Hero, when Piper doesn't tell Jason and Leo about her dad. Or when characters keep messing up. Like in Ruby Redfort, she accidentally steals something. Then when she tries to return it, she ends up stealing something else before sh can put it back. And that happened AGAIN. I stopped like the third time that happened, because it made me feel really angsty and stressed. Books do that to me. Like if the character is stressed, I'm stressed. Okay, sorry, I just had to rant about that. Phew, glad to get that out finally.
Has anyone ever read the Septimus Heap books? I don't know anyone who has, and I would LOVE to be able to talk about them with someone
