    Carne Diem

Yooo, what's the deal with this apparent dichotomy in fanfiction regarding ponies' reactions to carnivory? I don't know if it's a changing-of-the-guard in fanon, or if both "sides" are still present and active. The case is that I've seen a few authors these days writing their pony characters as being uncritical of meat-eaters and the eating/cooking of meat. Now, I'm okay with that viewpoint. But

    On "Angel"

So I was thinking a bit about Fluttershy's bunny Angel. Specifically, does his name mean that ponies have the concept of angels as we know them?

    i'm super into scale now?

so after seeing this pretty convincing chart a while ago, i've been passing a little time every now and then using its scale to determine the size of various features of equestria.
suffice it to say, first and foremost, that satyrs are impossible.
BUT! here's something i can share with you: a golden bit.

    haven't yet seen it, but...

so did the tree library go to the ethereal void, watch a clip show with treelestia and then get transformed into a winged elm?

    Here's a joke for you

Why is it called Equestria Girls drama instead of the human canon brawl?

of course there's a lot of guesswork involved — i'll make that concession. there are probably more significant digits here than are necessary or proper, given that gold bits are particularly small objects. and it also assumes that bits are solid gold. they may or may not be.
anyways, this image should be able to give you a good idea of how much a bit made of gold would currently cost in USD, using applejack's hoof for scale.
if you can't see the image: it's a whopping $33,240.
Edit: to clarify things a little bit, there was some rounding involved in the initial measurement of her hoof after I first got a measure of 5.65. i took a mean.

Pony-human scale is always an interesting topic.

As for the bits, there are two conclusions one can come to here:

1. Bits aren't solid gold, or
2. Gold is much more common in Equestria.

Given the relative plentitude of gemstones, I'm leaning towards 2.

2531286 They might also just value gold less than we do. But yeah, 2 seems reasonable to me.

So... AJ's only half a foot tall?:applejackunsure::unsuresweetie:

2531322 38 inches is 3 foot 2. it's her hoof that's half a foot wide.

2531323

Oh, didn't see that.:derpyderp1:

Bad with math here.

2531323 I rather like those measurements, they add up with my headcanon.

And considering they only had to dig a few feet into the ground to find huge and precious gems by Earth standard I'd say that gems aren't valued as much more than just pretty decoration to them.
So what's to say that gold isn't overly common to them, too.

2531458 Celestia is five feet tall, with a seven-foot wingspan and a 19-inch horn.
