And here we go! Persona EG is now published.
I hope you're all as excited about this project as I am!
I don't want to bog the story itself down with author's notes, but there are a few things I wanted to explain right off the bat, so here are a few things you need to know as you begin to read Persona EG.
1. Setting
This story is set in an alternate universe of Equestria Girls.
2. Update schedule
Barring unforeseen circumstances, Persona EG will update daily. One chapter will be posted per day. At present, eight chapters are written.
3. Story format
Each chapter of Persona EG will cover one day, to emulate the games' manner of progressing through the calendar year. Just like in the games, there will occasionally be "skipped days". Certain sections of text will be colored to emphasize their importance, also in imitation of the games themselves.
4. The Velvet Room
It's a static library in this story.
5. School year
Since Equestria Girls is a western property with western aesthetics, I'm using the western calendar year. The school year will therefore run from late August to the middle of June.
6. Story rating
I'm trying to strike a "happy medium" between the M-rated themes and imagery of Persona and the G-rated setting of Equestria Girls. I'm hoping the result will be a somewhat "lighter" Persona experience that still delves into some of the darker issues you would expect to find in the Persona franchise.
7. Mara will not be appearing in this story
For a number of reasons, Mara won't be one of Flash Sentry's Personas. Except maybe in an omake which will only be posted on my website.
8. Integration of gameplay elements into storytelling
I'm going to be striking a tricky balance with this. This is, first and foremost, a story. A narrative, written as a narrative, excluding the elements of gameplay that are nonsensical as part of a narrative. However...Persona isn't Persona without certain iconic elements. So yes, even though from a narrative standpoint it makes no sense whatsoever? There will be Social Links in this story. And they'll use a modified version of the Persona gameplay conventions. It's going to be tricky to pull this off without it looking stupid, but I think I've worked it out.
That having been said...things like leveling up and skills and stuff? No. There'll be certain obvious references to skills, and there WILL be a Compendium eventually, but I'm going to be as subtle as possible about incorporating things which are strictly gameplay into the story.
