Friendship is Card Games: A Bird in the Hoof · 2:35pm Sep 28th, 2014

First off, an administrative matter. Future readers diving through the archives, please direct your mind-machine interfaces lower down this laughably primitive sheet of text.

Now, one way or another, I'd like to see Rainbow Rocks before the "trimmed for commercial" version on whatever they'll be calling the Hub at that point. (Remember, the TV version of Equestria Girls cut out Trixie's vending machine scene. Utterly unforgivable.) However, it doesn't make much sense to do the sequel before the original, and that's a lot of footage for a double feature FiCG.

I'm thinking that if I can see the movie this week, I'll do Equestria Girls next week and Rainbow Rocks the one after. Does that work for everyone?

Now, as for the episode that gave us canon Trollestia:

I have to love Angel as the White Rabbit. Sadly, the episode did not premiere in March, though it missed the double pun by only a week. In any case, the opening scene here is Angel at his best, actively helping Fluttershy as best he can. This is the kind of Angel I had in mind when I came up with Archon of Virtue, and it's one I wish we could see more of.

The characterization of the main cast is great here. Fluttershy shrinking from any conflict, Dash trying to mess with the guards, Spike so used to the princess that it's not a big deal for him, Twilight twitching in her need for Celestia's approval, Rarity at STAINCON 1, Applejack desperately trying to recall her Manehattan etiquette lessons… and then there's Pinkie, who could not even begin to give a crap. Also, between this and "Pinkie Pride," I think we have confirmation that planeswalkers can't resist chocolate fountains.
Darn. Now I wish I could draw, because that is a fantastic mental image.

Anyway, I have to feel for Celestia. Everypony's being so anxious about not upsetting her (especially Twilight,) and she just wants them to enjoy themselves (especially Twilight.) Really, it's no wonder she pulled that little "Gotcha."

I suspect that Celestia's just making polite conversation with Fluttershy at the party. In all likelihood, the Royal Intelligence Agency has complete dossiers and personality profiles for the Bearers. Assuming the RIA exist, which the RIA denies. (Though it would explain how the guards knew Twilight would be at Fluttershy's cottage about a minute after she went there.)

I probably enjoyed the Yakety Ersatz more than I should've.

"Young lady," Celestia says. How many centuries do you think those two have spent together? Still, when Philomena acts like a child, she gets treated like one. (And I suppose she's relatively young at the time, what with just having renewed herself.)

And now cards:

I feel like Last Second should have some nominal non-Fateful Hour effect, even if it only amounts to cycling Last Second away ("Draw a card. Fateful Hour –" etc.)
Wait, never mind, it doesn't care what your current life total is, it just kills you at the end of your extra turn if you don't meet Fateful Hour conditions. Kind of like how Chroma-flagged abilities can count things other than devotion. That works!

Have you made a princess cadence, if not what about a soul bond mechanic.

Also, between this and "Pinkie Pride," I think we have confirmation that planeswalkers can't resist chocolate fountains.

Who can resist chocolate fountains?

Noticed an error:

Delicate Couture UU
Enchantment — Aura
Equipped creature gets +3/+3.
Whenever enchanted creature becomes the target of a spell or ability, sacrifice Delicate Couture.
"Nopony move, and my dress won't get hurt!"
—Rarity, Bearer of Generosity

I can, quite easily. I don't like chocolate.

Now, a cheese fountain on the other hand...

2490926
See Sideboard of Harmony, "Wedding Bells of Velis Vel."

2491545
There's resisting the opportunity to coat something in liquid chocolate, and then there's resisting the urge to plunge your entire face into the cascade. Pinkie and Ditzy have both failed to do the latter. I am now convinced that no chocolate fountain is safe from planeswalkers... except Karn, but he doesn't eat.

Argh, and I forgot the enchant ability too. Thanks. Delicate Couture was briefly (as in for about a minute) a Vulshok Battlegear that unattached itself when the equipped creature was targeted. I decided to go for the traditional illusion effect instead.

Wingblade Technique 1W
Instant
Target creature gets +1/+0 and gains first strike until end of turn. If that creature has flying, it gains double strike until end of turn.

Interestingly, if they somehow make you lose double strike, you still have first strike.

Last Second is a very very nice way to give a color other than blue extra turn shennanigans, and a very unique take on the fateful hour mechanic.

And as for Runneth Over? Excuse me, I will get back to you on that once I finish dying from laughter.

2493095 I'm pretty sure I meant the same thing.

Yeah, I'm not allowed at Golden Corral anymore...

This page marks the third time I've been forced to change the border color by unzipping the set file and hand-editing the YAML in emacs. (Runneth Over)
Oi. Also, there have been three times so far I've had to change the card color and add a color indicator. This has to be done by hand because MSE doesn't work perfectly in wine. And the five-color indicator is striped, which I think is uglier than if it were wedges. Oi.
