    Season 9 Retrospective

Warning: Season-wide spoilers abound. Proceed with caution.

I need to write this while the emotions of the finale are still fresh in my mind. Though the stories will continue in the comics (and countless fanfics, I'm sure), this is truly the end of an animation era. So, as a final season, did it go out with a bang, or a whimper? Follow me below the break to see my take.

Mama pajama, that was a rush. I really feel like something was rekindled here. Season 8 was alright, but I will admit it didn't have the same energy that made me fall in love with this show. This episode, however, had that energy in spades. Follow me below the break as I just gush a bit on what an epic season opener this was.

    Season 8 Retrospective

Welp, that was fun, huh? I know for most of you, the season ended earlier thanks to the Australian broadcast, but I didn't have the luxury of checking that out. Also, I'd rather do things by the book.

    Random Thoughts: The Washouts

Warning: Spoilers abound. Proceed with caution.

Let me just start off by saying great googily moogily, what a weekend this was! I thought Season 7 had scheduling problems, but this was just insane! Well, at least it's still trackable. Unlike some other shows I can mention *cough*TheLoudHouse*cough*.

What Rocks about Rainbow Rocks? · 5:53pm Sep 27th, 2014

Quite a few things, actually.

Warning: Spoilers abound. Proceed with caution.

Yep, I just got back from seeing the latest Equestria Girls movie. Reviewing stuff is not really my thing, and of course, I don't want to spoil too much stuff for people who didn't see it. But by golly, I can't stay silent about this. So, going back to my initial question: What Rocks about Rainbow Rocks?

1. The Story

It's a lot tighter and more cohesive than its predecessor. Things are explained, they actually make sense, and nothing really triggered my inner nitpicker. I was invested through and through.

2. Sunset Shimmer

She's the one I felt for the most throughout the entire experience. Seeing her actually try to take her reformation seriously and do the right thing while not getting appreciated for it is an interesting contrast to another reformed villain we all know and love. Of course, I find both arcs equally compelling in their own ways.

3. The Music

Like this was going to be any surprise. The soundtrack to this film is just great to rock out to, including Rainbow Dash's own theme song (it's about time) and the songs of the Dazzlings. Speaking of which:

4. The Dazzlings

A good villain is one that you love to hate, and this trio certainly fits that bill. Except for Sonata Dusk. Her I just love, if only because she's such a ditz. Also, a ponified version of the Sirens from Greco-Roman mythology? Count me in!

5. References and cameos

I think all of the bronies in the theater loved this part. It was part of the original Equestria Girls, and it makes a return for some of the more cute and funny moments in the movie. All of them were actually quite effective and not all that distracting to the narrative, which is most appreciated. Although I think the writers are starting to ship Lyra and Bon-Bon, or at least they're aware of this common pairing.

6. No romantic subplot

Oh, sure. They tease the ole FlashLight ship a few times, but it didn't take up that much screen time. I think we can all agree that this was a good decision. The only downside is that Flash Sentry is still about as boring as being trapped in an elevator with a potato.

7. Vinyl Scratch

I won't even bother to say how and cover it up with spoiler tags. All you need to know is that there's a reason she showed up so much in the online shorts Hasbro used to promote the film.

8. ???

This one's so awesome that I'm not even gonna say what it is. You'll know it when you see it, trust me.

Could it have been better? I suppose. Some plot elements could've been explored more, the moral was a bit vague, and Flash Sentry is still bland. But as it stands, I'd highly recommend it. Rock on, Rainbooms. Rock on.

Okay, now I want to watch the movie.

Which is this one?

Is it Daft Rarity?
Is it that scene where Octavia is voiced by Kazumi Evans?
Something I failed to notice, maybe?

2603606 No, it's neither of those two. I'll give you a hint: It's at the very end. :trollestia:

I watched it when it was broadcast on television. Might something have been cut from the in-theater version for time?
Was it before or after the credits?

2603672 It was after the credits. I heard it was cut from the TV broadcast, too, which is a bit of a shame. It really is quite awesome. :rainbowkiss:

Hm. I'll go and find it, then. Didn't know there was anything to look for.
Got me all excited now!

Found it. Saw it.

***RAINBOW ROCKS POST-MOVIE SPOILERS***

***SPOILERS END HERE***

Thanks, Bard. Wouldn't have even known about it if you hadn't hinted towards it.

2605573 Yep, that's the scene I'm referring to. It appears that in the human world, Twilight is the Question. All she needs is a lack of a face, and she'd fit the role perfectly. Or, am I the only one making that comparison?
