Still panicked and out of it. (Also: Want to meet Cv?) · 3:45am Sep 27th, 2014
So, I'm still pretty out of it. Emotionally and physically (hands). I have no clue what could be wrong with me. Lots of POSSIBLE leads but no evidence to lead me in a single direction anymore. There is only one thing I can do, and that's ask the doc to investigate further, AND put me on meds to manage and reduce the pain so I can hopefully write again. It might take a lot of convincing, though, and he might say no. Even if he says yes, the pain meds might not even work at all. But if this is going to take months or years, I need something to deaden the pain in the meantime. Not just for writing, but for quality of life, too.
Now, next topic. I have this little rule about pony cons. No going to any pony cons at all until I get most of the way through Rites. Period. This is not a rule I'll break.
But, up here in Edmonton, Alberta, there's a general comic book convention going to happen tomorrow and Sunday. My wife has convinced me to go. No idea when, exactly, I'll get there or how long I'll stay. I'm also not going as an exhibitor, just a general audience guest. So if, for some reason, you want to meet me, I'll be there. I honestly can't imagine why anyone would want to meet my sorry self, but, I'll be there. I'll try to use my phone to make another blog post a couple times to let people know when I'm going to be in a consistent spot for a while. (Most likely a food court. :P )
Violet will be there for Saturday but not Sunday (and she is super-shy so she might ninja-vanish at any time). I may or may not be there Sunday.
If, for some unfathomable reason, you actually want to meet my pathetic pudgy self and just happen to be going to this shindig, best bet is to use a phone to check the blog from time to time. I'll likely be wearing an "N7" shirt from Mass Effect, along with probably a million others there. :P

Were I anywhere near Canada I'd pop in. Unfortunately, Texas is as far from Canada as I can get and still be in the continental 48!
Sucks to hear about your hands. I hope they find some sort of solution, sooner rather than later.
On the writing front, have you ever considered using a text-to-speech program? I know they can be annoying at times, but it is something. Although editing would still be problematic, you could use it for composition. Just a thought.
Why do you have the rule about rites? I hope it works out with your meds.
If i had been close by i would probably have said hi at least, but alas, sweden is kinda far away...
This is what happens when the government attempts to help out with health care, i'm afraid. Hope you get it sorted ASAP.
2489556 Nothing to do with that at all, really. The most obvious diagnosis was simply wrong, and it's going to take a while to figure it all out. The same thing would have happened in the US. The only difference is here in Canada I didn't pay $2000 for a negative result.
Gotta second the speech-to-text program. Something like Dragon NaturallySpeaking, a very good paid option. the basic package is a bit over 100 bucks, and the premium package, which seems to have a bit better voice recognition among other things, is a bit over 200. Again, Dragon is EXTREMELY good at voice recognition and voice control (as in, even if it messes up, you can correct it by using spoken keywords, rather than typing), If you're gonna be unable to write due to pain from typing for, as you said, months or even years, 100 bucks might be worth it. hell, from what you've said in past posts, it might keep you sane!
Unfortunately, I'm almost positive it wouldn't work for programming, since you can't really "say" a line of code, but for dictating a story, even the basic package should work fine.
Of course, Windows 7 (and I believe 8) has a free built in speech to text program, which is good, but can get things wrong. If you're gonna go this route, it will work, but your probably gonna have to do a lot of manual correction.
2495006 My MacBook does have built in speech recognition with OS X Mavericks, but the neurons that work typing/writing and those that do speaking are completely different. Just doesn't work for me. I gave it a try and it is much, much harder than you'd think.
Also, I have zero privacy. I live with a bunch of roommates. The wife and I just rent a room in a house. I hate it when people just look over my shoulder, so I'm not really up to yelling at my MacBook Pro about magical talking ponies with a bunch of people around. I have only narrow slivers of time that are private.
2495274 Ah. Well I guess that explains why you haven't already done so yet. In any case, I sincerely hope you can find some way to get rid of that pain.We don't have that free healthcare up here for nothing!
Cv My mother have a similar problem no long ago she have an arthrose and she have do use an thumb immobilizer for a long time maybe is your case because you pass much time typing.
