Word of warning, I'm taking this space to ramble a bit.
After much stewing and simmering, a bit of refrigeration, a short trip to one of those walk-in meat freezers, a journey to the world's largest blender, surfing around the internet, a quick bounce to the snack cabinet, some trans-nucleonic reactions, and some other BS, I think my muse is finally starting to wake the hell up.
While I really enjoyed reading some of the stuff everyone here on FIMfiction has come up with, some drivel I found on FanFiction, and a bit of stuff off TVTropes, I'm getting tired of only experiencing and am starting to feel the need to craft my own stories once more. So, I thought, why not take a stroll down memory lane and take a look at what I had feared might be dead in the water?
I admit I almost threw up upon realizing exactly why my writing had hit a dead end. Really. I wasn't sure if I wanted to strangle myself for being stupid, or some other people for jumping on me like rabid badgers.
And I really didn't know what to think. And I've come to the conclusion that I'm just going to power through and try to get something out, because my creative muscles need flexing. Probably do "Revenant" before Moak, but we'll see. Markings needs to have more attention paid to it, I can get away with just flailing about with Rev simply because he doesn't need to have his life planned out, it's pretty simple.
On that note, NEVER, EVER dumb down your story because the main character isn't supposed to be as intelligent as you yourself are. It's something I noticed between my two fics. Revenant's story is told through his eyes, and he's not especially intelligent. Doesn't use 'big words' or think too much about things. The popularity of the story suffered immensely as a result. This is as opposed to Markings, where I wrote with my full vocabulary and intellect. It was up on the front page for a few days, and finally made it to the feature box after about two updates.
However, like the parental position one might find themselves in, with an average child who probably won't accomplish anything too special on his own, and a particularly bright child who's got a pretty good shot at being somebody important one day, I love them both and wouldn't change anything about them. Also like a parent, when you're asked to take care of someone else's child, you realize how special yours are and you suddenly feel the need to pay more attention to them.
...I'm going to stop that analogy right there, because all of a sudden things are making sense that really shouldn't at my age.
Awkward epiphanies aside, I am officially coming back to work on Moak and "Revenant". I never really stated I was gone, but the months without updates probably said a lot more than I could at the time.
You can all go over to thunderhawk7865 and give him a big 'Thank you for kicking Zimprus' ass back into gear' if you feel so inclined, as he's the major reason I decided to invite(drag) my muse back for some more changeling goodness. Points to HenryAnthonyCourtler too, he'd get pissy if I didn't give him some credit. Read their stuff, like it, love it, worship it. They have an interesting duality to them in that Henry has a couple of insanely good fics that attracted a lot of attention, while thunderhawk's material is a larger array of stuff that's got a smaller, more dedicated fanbase that loves it for being itself. Probably could have phrased that better, but you get the point.
Anyway.
I feel like I should throw you guys some stuff for having to wait so long. I'll slap up a short little poll on my next chapter, but I might as well do it here too(not that anyone really reads these things ;.;).
