Ditzy/Derpy vs Soarin (Who Got It Worse?)

I've noticed a bad trend within our fanbase, which is that we take a one-off joke and make that into a character. This happened with both of them, though in different ways.

Derpy/Ditzy: After the episode where Derpy (supposedly) says, "Muffin," we're greeted with an onslaught of images about her being obsessed with muffins. Later, as it's revealed that she's clumsy and has a "lazy eye", we're greeted with more images about her being slightly less intelligent than the rest of Equestria.

Soarin: After the episode where he's introduced at the Grand Galloping Gala, we're greeted with images of him being obsessed with pie. Since he appears to have a one-track mind, we also assume he's an idiot, albeit a lovable one.

Notice any similarities?

Now I understand this trend has been going on in fanfiction for the longest time, and that's perfectly okay. My question for today, who got it worse?

Ditzy/Derpy appears just ten episodes after her initial role, in a very major joke. This by itself makes her the more popular of the two. Soarin, on the other hand, didn't appear in another episode until his brief fly-by in Wonderbolt Academy (easily missed) and then his major role in Rainbow Falls.

Ditzy/Derpy's personality was left up in the air until her controversial appearance in an episode, which was soon removed, but proved that she was less than intelligent. Soarin's personality was ultimately left to the viewers until his major role in the episode Rainbow Falls, where he was proven to be the lovable idiot we all assumed he was.

So now, with this information at your disposal, I ask you: Who got the short end of the stick when it came to character development?

I personally believe it's Soarin because of his standing as a Wonderbolt, but that's just my opinion. Feel free to argue for or against me.
