Chapter 35 - The End is Nigh (Neigh?) · 7:47pm Sep 10th, 2014
Is done! At least, the first draft is. Still need to edit.
So anyway, I guess this is as good a time as any to inform everyone that this is probably going to be the penultimate chapter of the story. That is, barring some sort of major issue, the next chapter is going to be the last one. If it gets overly long, I may split it and have a final chapter with an epilogue, but that's as far as it'll go. I've definitely enjoyed writing this story, but I've been at it for over two years now, and I think this is a good time to finally wrap things up. I'm still musing over what my next big project will be.
But yeah, this one is in the final stages now. Hopefully I won't ruin it for everybody at the end here. In the meantime:
While it is sad that it is ending. The story is on that level that i can re read it over again and not get bored, only 2-3 fics have made that level on my list, be proud (that a guy on the internet like your story's)
Looking forward to what you'r next big project will be (maybe something TwiShy) but do take a brake and just relax, you deserve it.

Thank you so much for this story, it has been a very long journey, a very fun and beautiful journey. But like any journey it has to come to it's end, and that's not a bad thing. Your story has inspired me in a lot of ways and I feel absolutly lucky to come across it :) Can't wait for the wedding and future projects of yours!
ScootaSpoon?
I am intrigued.
TwiJack is best Mane 6 ship.
"There are no brakes on the rape scooter."
I'm really happy to see the final outcome is sight, and I'm looking forward to what come next. I for one am hoping to see a sequel that covers their new lives together. It has been beautiful journey though and I'm looking forward to their big day.
...did Silver Spoon just cut one?
2445421 I think she may have.
Something tells me you'll be moving on to bigger things, judging by both the tone of this blog and the somewhat lengthy amount of time between chapters. That implies that you've been doing some quite a few important things in regarding your own life goals and what not, at least from what I can tell.
Or I could be imagining things.
Still, blog like these usually seem to foreshadow these kinds of events.
But that could be just me.
2452007 Yes and no. As far as real life goals go, it's mainly that I've been busy with work lately, and haven't had as much time. Also, I want to finally do National Novel Writing Month this November, so this was a good time to wrap things up.
Also, the fact that I recently got a WiiU with Mario Kart 8 may or may not have anything to do with my update schedule.
I'm going to be sorry to see it end, but I think it's great that you have decided to go out on top. So many other writers get burnt out, and their writing suffers because of it. Just look at The Immortal Game. It's a good story but you can definitely see where the author wasn't quite feeling it.
If I had to narrow down the 25 stories on my favorites list to just ten (or even five) this story would be on it. If you look at my favorites list you would see that slice-of-life really isn't my thing. In non-pony life, drama fiction isn't really my thing. My bookshelf is mostly fantasy and sci-fi, with a smattering of horror, thriller, historical fiction, mystery. I own like two books that could be labeled as normal fiction (actually I just looked at my bookshelf, there is only one book I would really label as drama, and that's Jane Eyre. Which I read for a high school english class. In spite of myself I enjoyed it.)
I think some of my favorite pony stories are the ones that blend genres a bit. Take Eakin's Time Loop Trilogy for example. The second story is mostly about Twilight working with Star Swirl to save the day, but in the background there's the constant subplot of Twi's romance and the threat the Twi's experiences in the time loop have left her mentally unstable. A nonpony example would be Pirates of the Caribbean (the first one, because it's the best one). Ostensibly the movie is focused around Captain Jack Sparrow taking his revenge and getting his ship back, but then there's this subplot about two starcrossed lover's trying to save one another from pirates. (originally this space explained the joke, then I realized that was stupid).
I suppose the reason I don't like most slice-of-life is that I usually find it rather boring. Weddings? There are weddings everyday. A couple fighting? Happens all the time. Parents breaking up, leaving their child emotionally scarred? A little more interesting, but too commonplace to really be exciting. For instance, I liked Pride and Prejudice, but I didn't really find myself emotionally invested in any of the characters. Darcy came off as a jerk (at first), most of the women in the book were either proud, or vain, or stupid, Elizabeth and Jane seem a little more fleshed out, but I didn't really enjoy them.
What I'm trying to say here is that this story really did something for me. I stumbled onto this story on TvTropes one day and was immediately turned off. The description reads: "What happens when you realize that your feelings for one of your friends aren't quite the same as your feelings for the rest of them? Do you just prefer some friends over others, or is it a sign of something deeper? What do you do with those feelings? Hide them? Admit them? And how will the rest of your friends react when they find out? Twilight is going to have to do her best to find the answers, because they're anything but obvious." All I could think was that it had been done before. Why didn't it have lasers and griffons and war. It doesn't sound gritty at all, not like 'real fiction'. Then I read that it tries to be true to the show, and that it takes a long time to set up the romance, which I view as being more realistic than typical shipfics.
This is getting long so I'll wrap it up. Maybe it was the characters, or your writing style, or something, but I have loved every word of this story. Maybe in the future I won't scoff at 'boring' drama. Maybe I happened to come across your story at a time when my literary tastes were maturing. I'm not sure, but thank you so much.
2453775 You're very welcome.
Good for you for actually finishing it, I've seen so many people who just drop stories half way through.
