Buck you Writers Block! Neigh Hard: Neigh Harder Chapter 2! · 8:08pm Jun 12th, 2012
Last year I got to go to a book signing, there were lots of authors there including a lovely Australian lady whose fantasy books I am rather keen on.
I queued up and got this lovely author to sign her new book and had also taken a little black, leather bound, notebook I carry with me. After she signed her book I asked if she wouldn't mind signing my notebook. She smiled, took it and said she'd love to. She flicked through it and noticed it had a lot of writing notes in it. She asked me if I was writing a book and told her I had an idea and that I'd like to someday.
She signed my notebook, smiling, gave it back to me and we chatted briefly about her work, about the UK and her trip. I shook her hand and moved on so the next person could speak to her.
When I got back that night I checked my little notebook and she wore the following;
"To Name, Best of luck with your writing. Remember to always write what you love, and love what you write. All the best and never give up. Trudi"
I've been suffering a bit of writers block lately, not because I didn't know what to write but because I was trying to write for somebody else.
I sent Neigh Hard to EQD and they had concerns (valid and genuine concerns) that it would just become Die Hard 2 with Pony Masks on. Fair enough, I started trying to make it different, I cut scenes out I liked because they were direct parodies of the movie and I struggled to replace them.
I read the little quote in my notebook and realised that's where I've been going wrong. Neigh Hard may not end up on EQD but I'm writing the story I think is enjoyable, funny, and gives a massive Die Hard Fan (a die hard, Die Hard fan?) like me a huge grin.

It wasn't that I thought it mattered, more that I wanted to share the story with everyone.
I'm still going to re-submit Jewel when I've done the edits but I'm not breaking my back to fit their requirements. More, improve it for myself.
Neigh Hard though? It's a personal guilty pleasure. If they don't want it, that's cool. I do though.
