I've been up over 30 hours straight at this point, and I've spent the last 27 of 'em travelling back home from Japan (and this coming after a heavy night of karaoke and witnessing the very worst total bloody shambles for heavens sake why do I support this damn team the GREATEST baseball match of all time), so trust me when I say that merely keeping my eyes open feels like a real mission at the moment, let alone typing out a blog post.

But I didn't feel this could wait. Thank you to everyone who read and enjoyed my contest entry, and who voted it into third place. I didn't even expect to make the final five, let alone the final three, so I'm truly honoured by this. Seriously. I'm so happy right now. Thank you all again :raritystarry:

Much love.

Great job!

It was definitely the best entry in that contest that I read.
And I suppose the only entry I've read.

Oh well, it was still quite neat and fun and deserving of its laurels.
Twas nice stuff, Lucky

Haha! You should definitely check out the other two winners. They are both awesome, you won't be disappointed :raritywink:

日本語を話せますか?

2331684 Only a few words here and there I'm afraid. The main reason I was out there was to visit my older brother, but I wasn't quite expecting to fall in love with the language the way that I did -- I love the way it sounds and love even more the way that it looks. I had thought that Welsh/Spanish lessons back in high school had driven out all love of languages out of me, but learning Japanese is something that I think I might actually be interested in doing one day.

Thank you very much for the watch by the way!

Your brother lives there, I take it?

I'm heading to Japan in a few months myself. I'll be stationed in Tokyo, it looks like, and I'll finally get a chance to use the Japanese I've been studying all these years. Really looking forward to it.

If you want to get serious about Japanese, I highly recommend a book by James Heisig called "Remember the Kanji." It's a pretty much foolproof way to learn and remember 2000+ Asian characters, the knowing of which is an incredibly, inestimable advantage when actually learning the language.

And thank you for the follow as well :)

2334536 Thank you for the recommendation, I might very well check that out at some point!

Yeah, my brother teaches English out there, but not for very much longer -- he'll be back home here in Wales by the end of the month, so I had to visit him out there now or not at all. It was so worth it. Japan is an absolutely incredible place, like no-where else I've ever been (though admittedly I don't travel an awful lot). And Tokyo is a fantastic city. Or at least the bit of it I was staying in was. It wasn't like Osaka which felt like one continuous mega-city -- Tokyo was more like tons of smaller cities all mashed into one, if that makes sense.

And you're welcome by the way! It's not just your writing I'm following you for, it's your blog as well, it's fascinating. Hearing about Afghanistan from someone actually deployed there is not a perspective I'm used to seeing.
