Recently, while reading a story called The Machine, I got to a chapter in which Twilight Sparkle fucks Celestia to the point where Celestia gladly gives up helping Twilight in order to be her cumdump. Twilight meanwhile had been broken by the ordeals of the fic to the point of believing procreation to be the meaning of life. Despite the previous chapters all involving the girls losing themselves to lust how Twilight and Celestia reacted turned me off and ruined the fic for me from that point forward. That raised a question as to why did it bother me that the girls were broken in this manner? Well, it has three different reasons. One is that all of the girls submitted to their lust in a situation where aphrodisiacs or pre-planned prep forced the girls to follow the experiments. This led to each of them falling because they already had to make concessions but even as they broke they still had at least a minor problem until their lust and ecstasy ran away with them. That led to interesting breaking stories that were not only erotic but felt close to the characters, whereas a story where Celestia is raped until she submits by a Twilight whose entire world view has changed off page is no where near as connected. Two is that it feels so much more tame. Its a girl is raped, gets turned on, and runs with it. Even as Twilight challenges her to make the right decision, Celestia still opts to be the sex toy. It feels very run of the mill for badly written clopfiction and led to me being disinterested. And lastly is the real reason for the question, the manner of Twilights breaking. They subjected her to pleasure and had her watch her friends be broken and that led to a broken mindset where she should fuck her friends senseless and impregnated. This is terrible according to her character as she watched her friends struggle and use backwards rationals to justify the situations and their actions. It leaves a bad taste when a character acts out of character and based on the rest of the fic, its extremely hard to believe she would simply think all of her friends enjoyed this for no reason but pleasure or be led to this decision by her own thoughts. As a final answer, breaking a girl is erotic when its tied to them, its focused on them, it feels unique, and you understand why and how it happens. When done in this manner, it becomes boring and uninteresting but for the act being done, in which case, you can go to any other clop fic with a BDSM or rape tag and get what you want. That, that is not good writing and thats why generic breaking is not even remotely as interesting or erotic.

I'm glad to see someone else thinks the same why I do. I'm not sure about your stance on permanently broken mares, but for me the hottest effects are always temporary. An unnatural spell/substance/potion is brought into the mix and for the next hour or so a mare does things she would normally hate herself for. After it wears off the character 'wakes up' back in character and is fully able to regret her decisions, and can even grow as a character from them. I'm not sure if you have the same Idea or not, but that is what i enjoy seeing in a fic that delves into the less tasteful side of our desires.
