Hey, I'd like to begin this use of the blog system by humbly asking you to check out this story, Every Expression of Happiness. It is written by my lovely co-writer SongCoyote, who helped me write Basking in the Sun and Lust is Magic. Also, I was (heavily)

So I thought I'd take a swing at this whole blogging thing by throwing out my opinion where no one asked for it. :twilightblush: In all seriousness, I have something on my mind: Equestria Girls - Rainbow Rocks

When Equestria Girls was first announced, there was quite a bit of bull about the END OF THE FANDOM and the END OF FRIENDSHIP IS MAGIC and the END OF LAUREN FAUST'S VISION. While this has certainly turned out not to be true, even I must recognize that Equestria Girls was a Hasbro business decision designed to make profit from toy sales. Then again, MLP:FIM was originally that anyway, so I felt the need at the time to give Equestria Girls, the movie, a chance. I'm glad I did, because I was actually impressed with it.

There are a lot of things wrong with EqG that others have already said to death already, so I won't get into that. What I did like is that there was a narrative through out the thing that was both its independent entity and tied into the large FIM world at the same time. Also, I am a Sunset worshiper. She is neither best villain or best pony, but I love her character both for what was done with it (in the movie and in the fandom) and what could be done with it (I am pleased to see her return is due in Rainbow Rocks and that they will address her struggle to reform). In general, EqG surpassed all my expectations and also destroyed many (though not all) of those belonging to the neighsayers.

However, to this day EqG is something of joke in our community where many regard it as a separate entity that should be scorned and forgotten. As Rainbow Rocks approaches, I see the same cynicism brewing again. and I am disappointed. I am disappointed, because I was told that being a brony is about rejecting cynicism. I am also disappointed because not only did EqG prove the doubters wrong, Rainbow Rocks is already doing so now and it hasn't even premiered in theaters.

Yes, even I got the impression from the early preview clips that Rainbow Rocks was not going to be a narrative driven story, and I SHOULD KNOW BETTER. With the new clip I linked above, it should be clear that the opposite is true. In Equestria Girls, Twilight Sparkle comes to a fractured high school community, defeats the villain dividing and intimidating the innocents, and leaves them as a unified body. According to this clip, a new trio of villains has arrived and in one fell swoop unraveled Twilight's work, both dividing the student body again (even worse this time around it seems) and possibly endangering Sunset's reformation. You may not like this narrative, but it certainly exists, which is more than what the doubters believe is true here.

Equestria Girls is here to stay, everyone who has chosen not to blind themselves to reality will acknowledge this. What we choose to do about it, however, is what matters. If you watch the movies and decide that you do not like it, that is totally fine and I don't have any problem with it. But please don't act like or say that this is somehow going to endanger Friendship Is Magic or has no place in that narrative. As bronies, we are called on to love and tolerate, and these two movies are no different. And given how much pure, wonderful good has come of the fandom (even all the R34, R63, and /mlp/), I don't think that Hasbro trying to sell a few more toys is going to cause any problems.

Again, that's how this started in the first place, right?

Anyway, that's all just my OPINION and if you take it too seriously... well... buck you too! XD
