Hands-On Impressions · 2:42am Jul 28th, 2014
So if you've been paying attention to my blog at all, you'd know that I was just involved in the Destiny beta. These are my impressions from the four days that I got to play it.
The Good:
1. Explore is an addicting thing that not a lot of shooters have, but that has been imported directly from the MMO style.
2. The story looks like an amazing thing, even if it does follow some of the overused tropes in shooters. (Defense of a point against waves of enemies, worldwide destruction, aliens...)
3. Public events are an incredible way to bond players. My favorite is the Devil Walker one.
4. Bungie awards you for getting gold tier rank in public events.
5. Engrams are a great way to get stuff that's a mystery.*
6. The Hive are a dangerous enemy that shouldn't be trifled with.
7. The revival system incorporates as great way to get people together who usually wouldn't get together.
The Meh:
1. Bosses don't always drop loot. This can get annoying in strikes, where you have to defeat multiple bosses with no reward after the battle.
2. Engrams can often be labeled as uncommon, but come out as a common piece of equipment.*
3. No chat, even within fireteams during a strike. This would be worse, if there wasn't a way to communicate outside of talking.
4. There's no way to identify between loot and ammunition drops. Hopefully they add something to improve this.
The Bad:
1. PvP is impossible on the Moon. That Interceptor was just too powerful. (Then again, I suck at it.)
2. PvP in general wasn't that good unless you had the right loadout.
