Words of the Month · 6:52pm Jul 9th, 2014
I have decided to formulate lists of words that should be used in greater consistency.
These shall be posted once a month.
Use them.
Rescind- counter, withdraw
Annul-declare invalid
Despondency-lack of hope/hopelessness
Accrue-gain/accumulate (usually having to do with money)
Acumen-good judgment and quick decisions
Eldritch-sinister, ghostly
Countervail-counter
Ostentatious-pretentious or vulgar in display
Vindictive-strong desire for revenge
Acrimonious-angry and bitter
Rancorous-loud and obtrusive
Malevolent-wishing to do ill, or evil, to others
Unmethodical-beyond or against the common methods
appellation –to bestow a title
gratuitous uncalled for, lacking reason or done free of charge
extraneous-beyond, above, uncommon, or unrelated to common subject
inequitable-unfair, unequal
superfluidity-flowing without friction
despotic-typical of a depot, tyrannical
domicile- to make a permanent home
Clandestine-keep secret or done secretly
Conspiratorial-an act of secrecy between a party of two or more individuals with intent to do harm or illegal actions.
I think a few of these may be a little bit inaccurate.
Despondency usually means a state of hopelessness.
Being unmethodical is not so much using unusual methods as it is simply the oppposite of methodical - that is, not using much care or not using any planned method at all.
Superfluity is derived from superfluous, which is an adjective meaning something is unnecessary.
Conspiratorial is an adjective describing someone as engaged in secret planning. The noun would be conspirator.

The issue with despondency was corrected, and occurred when I removed a different word from the list and inadvertently removed the correct definition as well.
My definition of unmethodical is a secondary definition and I planned to use it as such.
My word processor shifted auto corrected superfluidity (it's a word, look it up) into superfluity. -Superfluity is not meant to be on the list.
Conspiratorial is a typo on my behalf. I did not mean to use the "ial" in the word, but have decided to leave it.

See? This is why everyone needs pre-readers. Thank ya, kindly.
2269850 No problem. I hope I didn't come across as rude to offer corrections in an unprompted way, looking back at it.
If you're interested, in the future I'd also be willing to help preread / edit stories for you, too.

"It's the curse of a typed medium of communication: you can't tell the tone of the person speaking." Replied -Hidden Identity- in a offhanded manner.
Nah, I didn't take you as being rude, and I will accept your offer. As far as I'm concerning having more pre-readers is a good thing.
Well, while we're being nitpicky, your formatting (capitalization and hyphen location mainly) is inconsistent too, so "nyah!"
Seriously though, I love using big words, and learning new ones. And while I knew all of these already, I certainly encourage the expansion of vocabulary and diction. Of course, google takes some of the fun out of that, because even if you think you're the first person to write down and use the phrase "Recalcitrant Hippopotamus," you're probably not.
So this just happened: That phrase came up while we were spit-balling ideas for Iron Author prompts, and on a whim, I just Googled it now to prove my point. I was expecting at least one or two obscure mentions. What I wasn't expecting was an entire site dedicated to expanding one's vocabulary via use of a hippopotamus. Seriously. This exists.

I love the internet some days!

At least you didn't lose the best of the author ideas: 'Flaccid Bacon'.
