Spoiler Alert: Robocop (2014), Part 2 · 10:03pm Jul 5th, 2014

:raritywink:: 'Robocop' quickly becomes a sensation thanks to his uber-efficient Big Brother techniques of apprehending criminals. I should note at this point that his use of a motorbike in this film, as apposed to the police cruiser of before, is not used to simply make him more 'bad #$%,' as I'm sure Rainbow Dash would put it. Instead, it fits the changing depiction of technology in fiction. When the original film was made, Murphy's loss of humanity was expressed by making him large and methodical, which is how high technology was viewed at the time. In the modern era, though, Robocop is shown as being frighteningly, inhumanely sleek and efficient, and the motorcycle fits perfectly into that theme.
:twilightsheepish:: Unfortunately, while his success is leading to increasing American support for drones, Robocop has not seen his family in weeks. His wife confronts him about the stress this is causing their son, and he loopholes his programming by prioritizing his own murder case and heading to his own house. Reviewing the case allows his emotions to return in an unsurprising and cliche' turn of events.
:ajbemused:: Murphy uses 'is Big Brother powers to find a phone call that incriminates both Vallon an' the crooked cops. He kills Vallon an' 'is men in a storm 'a bullets before comin' back ta the Police Station an' arrestin' two crooked cops. He tasers one for resistin' an' shoots another in the knee, literally just 'cause 'e feels like it.
Our hero, ladies an' gentlecolts.

:applejackunsure:: Er, beg pardon. Unfortunately, Murphy also uncovers massive corruption in the Police Department, causin' Keaton ta shut 'im down 'fore 'e can disgrace any 'a Omnicorp's friends in the department. Keaton decides ta turn Murphy inta a martyr, tellin' the media 'e died at the hands 'a crocked cops. Ultimately, the public decides that the efficiency an' incorruptibility 'a drones makes 'em better than actual cops.
: However, he underestimates Oldman's conscience, and the scientist decides that enough is enough and sets Murphy free. Murphy cuts a swathe of destruction through the drones protecting the Omnicorp building before encountering Keaton. Murphy had already been programmed so that he couldn't harm Keaton, but we get another scene of him overcoming his programming and shooting him anyway, but not before Keaton manages to severely injure him with a high-powered gun. Seriously, though, a dramatic scene of a cyborg overcoming his mechanical limitations? Victor Stone did it better.

:raritywink:: Fortunately, though, Oldman manages to fix him up, bring him back to his family, and testify on Omnicorp's violation of Murphy's rights. Which is good, because otherwise he would probably have had no legal leg to stand on and would've went to jail for killing Keaton. Oldman also gives Murphy his classic silver color scheme, and thank Celestia. I liked Knight Rider as much as anyone, but the silver look just has more to look at.
: So, what's our conclusion? Well….
:pinkiehappy:: Ooh, ooh, can I do it? Can I? Huh?!
:twilightblush:: Pinkie, what are you doing? This part's my job!
:pinkiesad2:: I know, but I didn't get to say anything in the entire review! Can I please do it? Pleeease? Pretty Please?! Pretty please with anchovies and penicillin on top?!
:twilightoops:: Wait, what? Um, alright, I guess.
:pinkiehappy:: Wheeee! Alright, so Robocop. Is it a great movie? Nah. Is it as good as the original? Beats me. But what it is is a rather harmless remake with some fun action scenes and a few attempts to raise fairly interesting questions about egghead ethics and stuff. Try it out if you get the chance!
That's it, we're done. Now we can PARTY!!!

:facehoof:: ….it's like raising a child sometimes.

The problem is the ending. In the original Murphy couldn't kill the head guy because of a secret prime directive that prevented him from harming the head of the company. However the PRESIDENT of the company was there and fired him, thus allowing Murphy to take the kill shot. It was actually pretty clever.

2260872 Oh, that would've helped the film immensly.

You know, I've actually never seen this or the original film.

Weird.

2260872 That actually does sound better than "man overrides programming 'cuz can", which kinda pushed my Willing Suspension of Disbelief.

2261500 This one actually flew under my radar for a while; I only ended up watching it because my dad rented it.
As for the classic, I don't know about other states, but in Michigan, the original is shown, like, all the time, so it's always been there for me to watch. Sometimes when you have something always available to you, you never get around to actually using it.
