I won a brand new laptop! · 1:40am Jun 11th, 2014
This is significant for me, since I'm so poor that I wouldn't be able to afford a new computer until my first year of college.
You see, I won an essay contest that was being sponsored by some lawyers. The winner got a free laptop. One of my teachers informed me of this contest last month, so I said, "Sure, I'll do it."
Keep in mind that I'm a lazy bastard, so the only reason why I even entered was for the prize I could win.
A month passes, and I haven't heard anything about the announcement of the winners. Just as I was about to stop caring, my teacher called me and told me that I won. I didn't want to get my hopes up in case it was a mistake, so I wasn't entirely convinced by her word.
An hour later, I got an email from the lawyers saying that I won. They invited me to their annual banquet to accept the prize on June 10th (today).
I went, and let me just say that I was genuinely surprised when I walked on stage after I heard my name announced and saw that actual lawyers and judges were giving me a standing ovation. They all knew my name after that. After the award ceremony, they all walked up to me to give me a handshake. JUDGES GAVE ME A HANDSHAKE, DAMMIT. I even got a few business cards from them, too, in case I wanted to participate in any summer programs, both for this year and next year; my senior year.
My mother was there with me, and she was almost crying because she was so proud...
I just got back an hour ago, with my brand new laptop, too. It's much bigger and better than my old one, with the exception that the new one came with...ugh...

And, before you think I'm lying, I have pics of the computer, so it happened by default.
So yeah, I just unboxed it. I'm typing on my old laptop at the moment, because I'm gonna spend the next hour or so fucking around with my new one. My old one is my very first computer that is nothing more than a hand-me-down from a teacher who liked me enough to give it to me. It's pretty old and slow. But this new one...
I earned this new one; it's not something that was just given to me. I earned it.
I'm so happy!
So, um... That was how my day went. Not many complaints, there. I'm probably gonna be doing this with my new computer for the rest of the night:
DELETE THE SKYPE APP AND DOWNLOAD AN OLDER VERSION AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!!!
Apart from that, I don't actually mind Window 8 all that much. Once you figure out how everything works, which doesn't take long, it's actually not that bad.

Just download an older Skype at the very least. I might like Windows 8, and you might hate it, but trust me when I say that Windows 8 Skype is a piece of retarded shit that should never have happened.

I second this. Go for the desktop version of Skype and only use the apps if you have to.
