Rant posts are good posts... · 1:39am May 29th, 2012

Or that's what my psychologists tell me.... psh, who am I kidding. I'm too cheap to afford psychiatric help. No, this is the advice of JohnPerry, DarthLolita, and my brother, all whom see to agree that I gotta let off some steam or risk throwing myself off of the roof of my house.

As some of you have probably noticed, I had promised back on the previous chapter of Slice of Life, the next chapter was going to be out soon. Now, I dunno about you folks, but my definition of soon is... what?Few days? A week tops? I mean, its like I managed to post this chapter FIVE WEEKS after I told you "soon".... but whose counting, right?

Definately not one of my prouder moments, folks. The past five weeks have been... a bit stressful. Now, according to those who are forcing me to write this (seriously, my brother has locked me in the bathroom, barricaded the door, and is holding me hostage until I finish this. If anyone is reading this, please send a swat team) I'm suppose to write down everything that has bothered or caused me stress.

Immedietly after my birthday, I went and had to drop ponies for a bit so I could just hit the books. Like, hit the books like a nucleur BOMB. Oneof my most important classes was on a knifes edge between pass or fail, and I needed to do superb on this next test to ensure I stayed on the Dean'slist. As well as studying for my other exams, other classes, and the massive amounts of Final work that soaked that up.

Good news: Passed all my classes, my intermediete accounting class, which was the one in trouble, I got a B+ on.

Immedietly after finish up this semester of college and the wonderful amounts of crazines it entailed, I then find myself a company man. Now, don't get me wrong. I have found myself an absolutely awesome job for the summer. 7 days a week, tons of hours (including guaranteed overtime), and a litte over $10an hour? In a recession economy in which most people can't find jobs with a degree let alone find a job? I consider myself very VERY lucky.

However, I NEED to keep this job, because frankly, its for college. I have refused to take out any loans for college, (cause it would be suicide being about $150,000 in debt in this economy) so I need to pay off each of my bills for college as they come my way. Thus far, I have been increadibly sucessful and currently own ZIP when it comes to student debt. Furhter more, because of my college workload, I will be able to graduate a semester early and save myself $20,000. Unfortunately, some days coming home from work, Im just so drained I can only just crawl into bed and wait for the next day.

Also as of late, past several weeks,, my laptop has been sorta hijacked by my sister. Now, I'm not bothered at all by that. She's needed it for her classes. She was a senior in highschool, and she's been fighting for months to secure her valedictorian posistion in her class. Its something she's worked for her entire life, and she's been trying to fight out these other (rhymes with snitches) for the honor. So she needed to work on her final tsunami of essays, homework, and an easy and portal method of studying wherever she was at.

Hence my laptop. I'd come home, she'd be on it, and Id be "Whatevs. Do what you need too." I wasn't gonna sabotoge her. Gave me some time to catch up on my novel reading. For those of you out there, I'd HIGHLY suggest the Twelve Swords of Power series, The Nightlands, The Sleeper Awakes, and Paris in 20th century (by Jules Verne). I managed to read all the books, and its given me a few ideas.

A few days ago, I finally go both access to my laptop and the time to write. Thus comes my final stresser. Slice of Life.

I had a good portion of the chapter already written. I ended up deleting it and rewrittingmost of it. I just... wasn't happy with it. It jusn't wasn't right. It just seemed... I don't want to say artificial, but it just didn't seem natural.

Then the part that I DID write wound up being way longer than what I already had. What I was writing was what was suppose to be the REST of chapter six, but it was so long.... I felt it was better to cut my losses short, just make it chapter 7 instead, and move on with the story. Ironically, I was only able to write part of what i wantedbefore cutting it again, and now pushing those tidbits to chapter 8. Which, incase your wondering, chapter 8 will be funnier than chapter 7.

I was literally beating my head against my desk as I wrote chapter 7. Nothing was coming to me easily, and I was fighting my muse tooth and nail in order to get just the right words. Even still ,I dont think I suceeded. John thinks I should take a break and work on other stories.

Whatever I decide to do (if its a break, itll only be for a week. I swear. Work is now under control, I have laptop back, and KNOW what I want for the next chapter.) I do aree with him I should try to stir up my creative juices elsewhere. Ive had dozens of other stories on my brain for the longest time, but I made a promise to see Slice of Life through till the end and to see it completed. So... Ive been trying to focus writing solely that.

I... I'd really like to work on my other stories. I have tons, and its a wide crowd. Im not sure where to start though.

So thats where you folks come in. Little bit of research into my audience. Do you want another short comedy? Adventure? Maybe a more serious and ACTUAL Slice of Life story? Sad fic perhaps? Maybe an insane meta-fic?

I have a ton of ideas, and in every genre. Im just not sure hich one to start. I'dlike to write all of them, but I gotta start somewhere.

And... once again, I'd like to apologizeto my fans for the wait. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think I'd have fans... but here you are. And I've messed up time and time again, made excuse after excuse... and I really don't deserve you guys,

Thank you for making me feel worthwhile.

And... this sums up my worry and self-esteem right now..... so if you could...

The song "Throw me Away" by Korn comes to mind. Don't worry bro, I'd never let them throw you away. And throwing yourself is a very fun (albeit somewhat dangerous) way to let off steam. I do it at least once a week (That's what she said).

It's all good Mr.Dawnscroll.

TAKE YO SEWWEET TIEM!!!!
JUST MAKE IT GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRREAT!!!@?@#/1@!@#:pinkiehappy:

Dude! Real life trumps ponies. As fun and cool and awesome ponies and your stories are, you're making the right choice. Those who bail on you, well, fark 'em. :moustache:

I'll admit it, I'm new to your stories. In fact, I just got here about 15 minutes ago, when I saw "A Slice of Life" in the featured bar. When your first new chapter in a while is good enough to get there in... however long, I think that you're more than forgiven for tardiness brought on by VERY legitimate reasons.

Congratulations on your class save, novel reading, Valedictorian Sister and new job! You have nothing to be ashamed of.

Also, I'm spending the next week reading your stuff. Just a heads up. :rainbowlaugh:

I read just about anything, really it's down to whatever works for the writer, although if you really want a break from Slice of Life, you should try at writing something just ever so slightly less comedy.

Don't take that as criticism or anything, Slice of Life is brilliant, but stress is bad, so kick back, write an adventure or something and let it flow.

Also don't read this comment because this is the first time I felt bothered enough to comment on a rant post and therefore it is bad and I should feel bad. Have an explosion: i.imgur.com/ZuRGq.jpg

nice to see you could get that all out  i hope things start making a nice upward turn for you in the next few days, weeks, months you get the gist. im glad youve found a nice paying and stable job and that you are ready to get yourself through college. i commend all of your already made efforts and wish you the best for your future :rainbowkiss:
also, im very glad you arent leaving your writing, because quite frankly, you have very nice writing skills and i think you make a fine author (of fanfiction at the very least, considering ive read nothing else by you)
chin up chap, youve got a world of friends behind you :pinkiehappy: (and yeah, that includes me)

Hey man, we all have our little ups and downs and such.

What I would like to see? If I said second person shipfic......? :pinkiehappy:

Question, what's a meta-fic?

(Private hug)

Eh - people gotta vent somewhere about everything that bothers them. Trying to repress that need is decidedly unhealthy. So - you wanna blow up in a blog post? Blow up in a blog post. Few people are going to complain, and none have any right to.
As for having ideas for different stories - _do not suppress your muse_. If your creativity is leading you away from ASoL - follow it. You will come back when your muse is no longer weary of that tale.

Venting is good. I approve this blog post.
As for what to write, I'd say do whatever the hey you want. Personally, I'd suggest writing a one shot of one of your ideas, just to get it off your chest and to throw some variety into your current writing workload.

tl;dr
but what i got from the comments is that you are worried about your real life conflicting with your stories
am i right?
well
real life is more important than stories
atleast when it comes to money, jobs, family and friends

*Hug*:moustache:

How about you write a little bit of everything...just...totally chaotic and random. Every idea and word that first comes to mind!

I'd read that...and love every bit of it.

I'd like to see more slice of life fics, it doesn't really matter if they're funny or serious. Thank you SOOO much for slice of life, it's an amazing story and you're doing an excellent job writing it. You were wrong about one thing though, you DO deserve us! :yay:

Sounds like you've had a rough few weeks. I know the feels, don't worry.

As for story ideas, I'd love to see something soft, happy, romantic, etc....maybe with a certain moon princess involved.

Heck I dunno. I'm so biased I'm triased.

GRIT THOSE TEETH!!!

Listen, Dawnscroll , never forget. Just believe in yourself! Not in the Dawnscroll that I believe in, not in the fans that you believe in, have faith in the Dawnscroll that believes in you! (awsomest peptalk ever!)

No, seriously. They might not be my words but i mean every one of them. Your fans will be waiting no matter how long it takes, so don't worry about it, just sort out what needs to be done.

It's not an excuse when real life takes priority. Don't worry about it, we understand. If writing Slice of Life is stressing you out, then it isn't fun to do. Do something else that you want to do, we'll still be here. I'd rather you be happy than writing something that makes you unhappy.

Live life. Living the internet is not cool.
Also anyone who can say no to a Luna that adorable has a heart harder than my cold little coal one.

"if you write it, fav's will come."

My favorite genre is light comedy but honestly? You're a good writer and as long as what you write is good than people will enjoy it.

Gratz to your exams! That stuff is important. I know far too many people who let their education slip for some MMORPG or other hobbies.
Always a sad thing to see a future go down the drain. :twilightoops:
What you should write? Adventure or comedy are always welcome. Please don't go meta. Unless you have some really awesome idea there is far too much subpar meta floating around already. :derpytongue2:

No worries! We come here because we like to read stories, and authors like you are gracious enough to post for us. Don't stress yourself, and know that you've earned everypony's support for your writing. Thanks!

I understand your situation. There no rush. I can wait.

"...an insane meta-fic?"

Yes plz o.o

Here waiting patiently to the end, Dawnscroll:twilightsmile: You've got a lot going on right now, so obviously it's alright that you take your time writing. As a fan of your work, I understand that school and real life take precedence over your writing; I'd argue that all your fans do as well. So just don't even worry, and keep up the fantastic work; you're an incredible author, and it seems like a fantastic person in general:heart:

Whatever you want to write! But, you do seem to have a real talent for comedy. I'll read anything, assuming I've finished my backlog. :applejackunsure:

Been there, done that. All I can really say to you is to do what you enjoy. If you need a break, I am sure your fans will understand. If you can't think of what to write next in a part, often asking for ideas from a trusted friend can help you move along. It's amazing what a second opinion can do for you and how well your story flows.

As for what you should do next, do whatever idea has you the most excited first. (Lol, hypocrite alert). I look forward to seeing what you come up with next!

Dude, you have nothing to apologize for. A class save and Valedictorian sister, nice job, and some good novels read? You, sir, are awesome. Also, any genre so long as it makes sense is good.
