The One Pony You Never Prank has to end sometime, and when it does I already got a project that I can't wait to get started on! The title's Obsolete and I feel that it's a type of fic that hasn't really been done before, even though the idea for it just seemed so obvious to me.
The gist of it:
Inspired by the sequence in Applebuck Season where Twilight magically removes a whole bunch of apples from AJ's orchard at once in like half a second. A group of unicorns come into Ponyville and argue that their company can do what the Apples do and remove the fruit at a fraction of the time and cost using magic. AJ realizes that they're right and deals with being obsolete (hence the title) and wonders if earth ponies really are less than unicorns and pegasi.
The idea for the story just came to me like it was obvious. I remember seeing that moment seeing in the episode with my brother and the both of us just started laughing at how overpowered Twilight was and made Applejack look like she sucked. It then hit me though that something like that was never mentioned or talked about in the show, and probably never will, so here I am about to write fanfiction about it!
I am gonna write it when I'm done with The One Pony You Never Prank though, because just thinking about writing two fics at the same time makes me dizzy. Also, I feel I gotta say this, so here it is....
The ending I have planned for Obsolete is MEANT to be controversial, so when you read it think about it in a more philosophical sense then just a reader of MLP fanfiction. I've always been a deep guy (no pun intended) and actually love writing serious, thematic and thought provoking stories compared to random ones that are just for the lulz. Writing stuff like Rainbow Dash going crazy is fun and all, but writing a story that angers you and makes you think about the world is just more fulfilling to me.
So keep an eye out for it if the description intrigued you or made you curious. And go on and write something epic yourselves!
Uhhh... Have you forgotten the Super Cider Squeezy 6000? This exact topic has been addressed by the show. Although the show did a horrible job addressing it and was filled with countless flaws. So yeah, if you're doing this, you better make it clear how this is different from Flim and Flam. Although really now Flim and Flam did prove Applejack obsolete, being that Applejack was only able to even come close with the unpaid labor of her friends. And there's also the popular head canon the earth ponies have powerful, innate plant growing magic that unicorns can't hope to match.

Yeah I knew this would be compared to that episode. This is the same thing as it on the surface but overall different. The only similarities they have is someone coming and arguing that they can do the Apples' jobs better. In SSCS 6000 though AJ wins due to friendship all and that while here she without a doubt loses. Also, true she only came close becase of her friends, but with that the show never mentioned about how her being an earth pony was a disability, instead they just did what they always do and said that "friendship saved the day!"
And of course AJ is gonna talk about the Flim Flams in the fic.
