IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE SEASON 4 FINALE, SPOILERS AHEAD, STOP AND WATCH IT FIRST.
Blog continues below,
So first, I think Discord's Day actually plays very well into the results of Twilight's Kingdom (though does break the bit about Twilight still living in the library, of course). Discord has learned that he really *does* value friendship, and even when given a day of his own to play with, he doesn't go hog-wild over it... though even a friendship-valuing Discord is still really, really annoying and impulsive.
But anyway! Some thinking about time-travel and implications from Twilight's Kingdom.
I think I have a new bit of headcanon. It resolves a question left unanswered quite a while ago. How did the stable time loop get created? In the 'first' run through the loop, there wouldn't have been anyone to give a warning - so why would she have gone back and driven herself frantic in the first place? Now, I think, we know.
Timeline A: Twilight wanders around Ponyville not suspecting anything is wrong. With no one on guard, Cerberus' escape takes quite a lot longer to resolve. While Cerberus is away, Tirek has time to jumpstart himself, maybe by draining a few other captives before escaping, and possibly is able to ambush some ponies as they return Cerberus to Tartarus. Twilight is not yet a princess, so Celestia, Luna, and Cadence have no one to transfer their magic to. By using her teleporting abilities, Twilight is able to avoid Tirek for a while, even as he's using alicorn magic and trashing the place. Twilight sneaks into the Starswirl The Bearded Wing in hopes of finding a time-travel spell. She does, and goes back to warn her prior self to stop Tirek while he's still weak.
Timeline B: Future Twilight comes back, trying to warn Past Twilight of Tirek's escape. Past Twilight interrupts too much, but gets enough information that she starts frantically preparing for some unknown catastrophe. This results in Cerberus being captured and returned promptly, so Tirek only has time to escape, still weakened. Twilight sees no problems happening and assumes she hasn't stopped the catastrophe, thus keeps going and eventually tries to go back in time to tell herself not to worry, which causes the events of Timeline B to recur in every loop thereafter. Stable time loop established.
Ta-da!
That is so becoming a story and I thought that too when the whole cerberus thing was brought up.
