Should I add a "Sad" tag to OTTB? · 11:13pm May 25th, 2012
Some people have brought up that it would be appropriate to add a "Sad" tag to the story since it does contain many sad elements. I had originally left it out it for two reasons in particular:
1) I felt "Slice of Life" would be enough to encompass they entirety of the story elements.
2) I have a feeling that most readers won't touch a "Sad" story for fear it would become way too sentimental until it becomes more comical than sad.
I felt that the story would benefit more from just the "Slice of Life" tag without the "Sad" tag since it does present a truthful depiction of the story without the negative connotations of the other tag. Or maybe I'm just being too sensitive and I should add the "Sad" tag to present the story in a more true fashion.
What do you think?
I don't think the "sad" tag is necessary. Slice-of-Life does encompass everything, and all walks of life do contain some sadness. However, I would think the "sad" tag would apply more to overwhelming emotional tragedy rather than day-to-day depression. Might be necessary later if Octavia's mother has anything to say about it.....
It does have its sad moments. (some may have almost made me cry
) but I also feel a slice of life fits better. Life does have its sad sentimental moments. You are an excellent writer, so I'm sure you will be able to make a choice soon. So that's my two bits, I hope you can come up with a decision. I can't wait for the next chapter. My editor is doing his thing for my chp 6 of my fic right now. Keep up the good work!!
I see what you mean with slice of life, but there have been numerous moments throughout the story so far that definitely fall into the category of sad. If it was a scatter thing, I would say don't add the sad tag, but seems like every chapter bar the latest one has been sad or had a major sad element in it. It's really your call, but I definitely think it's sad.
Also, remember that we're talking about fluffy marshmallow pony stories here. Things that fall more under day to day sadness for some people/places seem much more serious with a pastel backdrop.
In fear of swaying readers away, I don't suggest you add it. it's entirely up to you though.
I would add the tag. Some parts are quite depressing and the last chapter's cliffhanger is reason alone for it.
It would be misleading to not mention that the story is quite emotional and somewhat disturbing in places.
(Maybe at least put a brief warning in the description)
Feel free to do what you want though as it is your story after all.
