Babsbirthday Extravaganza · 7:00pm Apr 29th, 2014
Hello everyone!
Gosh, I'm a bit late with this, aren't I? I went to Babscon last week, and boy, was it cool! Well, everything except the flight there. Geez, that was cramped. Ten and a half hours without personal space is very trying. At least I got to watch Thor 2, Tangled and Frozen. Awesome movies! I especially loved Tangled. I also met Law Abiding Pony on my first day in SF. He's a cool dude!
The con itself was great. I didn't experience much of the first day. I went to the opening ceremonies, and that was pretty much it. I felt really sick due to jetlag, crappy airplane air conditioning and a HUGE amount of stress. Long story short, I completely broke down that day. There wasn't all that much I wanted to see that day, anyway. The only panel labeled as fanfiction was one about analyzing the show, which isn't the kind of stuff I was looking for.
The second day was a lot better. I went to see the VA panel, which was amazing! My dad joined as well, and even he found it funny. And he's not even a brony! He did know Vegeta, though, so that was something, considering Bryan Drummond was there. I was more interested in Peter New's Princess Big Mac outfit. That was... weird. I also saw the guy, along with Nicole Oliver, M.A. Larson, G.M. Berrow, Josh Haber and some other dudes in the sports bar that same evening. Also met some people I met way back in Baltimore. Such a small world. Sadly, there weren't any fanfiction panels I went to, again. The only one was a How-To: Grimdark panel, around midnight. Besides being too tired to attend, I wasn't all that interested anyway. Grimdark is cool and all, but it doesn't capture my interest when combined with pony.
And on the third day, I... went to Alcatraz! Psych, I guess. Alcatraz is also really cool. Very impressive! I even brought along a souvenir for my pet ferret, a plushie of a gull chick. The little guy loves it and will hide it everywhere when given the chance. Sadly, most fanfiction panels were during the time I was there. There were two how-to's on fanfiction, but one of them didn't have a description in the little book thingy. There was another one about speculating on the armed forces of Equestria, which, quite frankly, bores the ever-loving bajimmies out of me. No offense to the military or anything, but I just don't care about all that stuff. Like, at all :I
It's a shame I didn't get to do a changeling panel because it was 'too niche'. I'd loved to have done something like that, even though I'm pretty sure I'd be too tired and sick to actually present a decent panel. Finally, I went to the closing ceremonies, which were pretty neat, but nothing really special.
I did get some goodies. An RD plush, a Pinkie plush, a Metroid beanie, and Ponyfinder, a supplement to Pathfinder! Yaaay! Even though I play D&D 4.0, I'm sure I can incorporate it, somehow.
Oh, and speaking about D&D, I spent today, my birthday, doing just that! It was pretty awesome. I got to beat the crap out of my friends and brother, playing as spiders, rust monsters and kruthiks. It was fun, and I gave them a run for their money. Maybe tone down the difficulty juuuust a little bit.
Anyway, no writing as of yet. Still way too stressed to get anything done. I've said it many times, I hope I can get something done soon. That soon is just taking quite a long while :(
I hope you can come next year. If I have my way, I'll be in charge of fanfiction panels next year.
AND HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
Sounds like an awesome time! Good on ya.
Well, at least you weren't so stressed out that it kept you from getting to and enjoying Babscon, or any con for that matter. Consider yourself lucky; going to any con for me is pretty much out of the question because I can neither afford to or can reach one because they are never in my neck of the woods.
Sounds like a much deserved break, apart from the first day.
Glad you had fun.
And Happy Birthday.
