An Equestria Girls fic with a Flash Sentry tag. Wow, this will be popular! (EDIT: Two views. Two thumbs up, one down. This is going to be fun!)
Truth is, I just wanted a chance to see Pinkie and Cheese in the Equestria Girls universe. I figured they would pep it up, if anypony could, and no one seems to have done it yet. How would these two extremely cartoonish characters translate into a semi-human universe? I thought of it as a challenge, and a further challenge still to write Flash Sentry.
This story is a sort of teaser, narrated from the point of view of First Base. He’s the Earth Pony background colt with Flash Sentry’s coloration and a baseball cutie mark. We’ve seen him a few times, and some people have decided to think of him as Flash’s younger brother. The full length fic will not be narrated from his point of view. It’s just a chance to introduce Pinkie and Cheese and to hint at some plot points.
As for Flash, I have mixed feelings about him. I managed to dispel some of my own annoyance with him, but writing him has been tough, to say the least.

Is Flash Sentry going to be a major character?
No. He will be a minor character, but he will not appear very much. The major characters will be the so-called Humane Five, not including Twilight Sparkle, and Cheese Sandwich.
Is there going to be shipping I’ll hate?
Not unless you hate CheesePie. I have no plans for any other ships.
Is there going to be Flashlight (Flash Sentry/Twilight Sparkle)? Gawd, I hate that ship.
The fic is EG canon-compliant up to Rainbow Rocks. I can’t promise anything beyond that one. This means that Twilight Sparkle has returned to Equestria. What occurred between Flash and Twilight is exactly what appeared on-screen in Equestria Girls. Twilight will not be making an appearance, hence, no Flashlight. If you love that ship, there won’t be much to contradict that, either. We aim to please. Sort of.

I've considered writing a Flash Sentry fic too, though I am considering waiting on it for now. My idea is pre EG, and he would be in a bad relationship with a studying Sunset Shimmer. Sunset is very much the dominant, power hungry type, wearing the pants in the relationship and making Flash feel like less of a man. The Canterlot guards he works with notice this, and make fun of him much the same way the MLP fandom does.
As a student, Sunset Shimmer tries to be the best. She oversteps her bounds and faces expulsion. In a desperate attempt to regain power, she goes to the library looking for answers. There she bumps into fellow student and crazy conspiracy theorists, Lyra Heartstrings. Lyra is convinced that the mythical human species is real, and has been researching about a mirror portal to a world full of them lost centuries ago in the vanished, legendary Crystal Empire.
Armed with this knowledge, Sunset Shimmer, Flash Sentry, and Lyra head for the location of the missing empire. With the help of dark magic, they summon it back into existence, along with the threat that made it disappear. While Flash and Lyra are more concerned about correcting their mistakes, Sunset bails on them by taking the one chance they have to enter the human world. Flash and Lyra watch as the Mane 6 save the day.
Glad to have this whole mess behind him, Flash tries to start a relationship with Lyra, only to learn that she just doesn't swing that way. Giving up on love, Flash commits himself to the empire that he nearly destroyed with his ex.
I'm not sure how well the idea would be accepted given the Flash Sentry hate, but I don't know.
Huh. Could be interesting. I'm not super-big on Lyra either way, although I've enjoyed her in the past, but it's possible that the Lyra love might offset the Flash hate, and epic adventure is always could. Can't write it myself for beans.
I don't really understand Flash hate. Surely the annoyance at his existence should have dissipated in almost a year? And as a character, it doesn't seem to me that there's enough to hate.
BabsSeed_72 did pretty well with The Order, and I think PonyFlash hate may be a little bit less intense, especially if you're not pairing him with Twilight. If it's a long-runner, I think the initial dislike will probably be over with quickly and you can build up the readership a bit at a time. I was hoping to be able to make the EG universe a bit more appealing with Cheese and Pinkie in it, but adding Flash too might have been a little too much! Hopefully that won't color the impression of the real fic, but eh; people like what they like.
