I put up a story recently intended to be funny.
Someone commented saying they didn't think it was that funny.
Sure, that's 100% fine. We don't all have the same kind of humour.
I told them that even if something I write, whatever the intention behind the story was meant to be, I can live a little better knowing I did good by someone, even if's someone I've never, nor will I ever, meet.
I know what it's like to have lost and feel what it's like scraping the bottom of the emotional barrel trying to find an excuse to feel good about myself.
I figured if I can bring some sort of light to someones life by writing a funny story, then it's just adding to a pile of good things on both sides, so it doesn't matter if someone doesn't like/think it's funny. What matters is the people that do like it, and it brightens up their day. If they say it's the funniest thing they ever read, then I can take solace knowing someones day is just that much better
I can't say that my good stories bring light to people's days/or cheer them up [cuz the only good one at all is a more serious, darker story, but I do have a few comedies too], but yeah, it's all about having those certain critics of yours that love everything you have to put up, because they're the ones who will follow you to the end.
