One Good Thing About Season 4 · 2:56pm Mar 17th, 2014
As a whole, I've found Season 4 a bit of an...uneven ride thus far. We've had some very high highs, to be sure, but we have also had some very low lows, and between the two extremes it's felt mostly OK but not great; there have simply been too many episodes this season that left a bad taste in my mouth, and the ratio of those that did vs. those that didn't, and the degree to which they did, has been too lopsided for me to ignore. I don't want to call it bad, understand, just...disappointing.
But whatever else its faults, I find it hard to argue against one particular strength it has shown off rather consistently: New Characters.
Seriously. Think about it. Season 4 has introduced us to a lot of New Characters thus far, and to a one, they have all been memorable, endearing, enjoyable, and/or amazing. Goldie Delicious, Cheese Sandwich, the unforgettable Angel/Devil duo of Coco Pommel and Suri Polomare, Seabreeze, Maud Pie...I'm even willing to count A.K. Yearling/Daring Do, since her existence as an actual Pony is now confirmed. Even when the episodes they're in aren't necessarily the best (though looking it over, I can't help but notice the majority of the episodes featuring these new characters are, for the most part, among the better ones this season thus far), the characters themselves have proven welcome additions to FiM's world and cast, and I find myself hoping we'll get to see more of each and every one of them at some point in the future.
So even if Season 4 continues its uneven streak, I feel alright about where it stands in the overall scheme of FiM, because any season that gives us THAT much good new stuff to work with can't really be considered bad. ^_^
