Friendship is Card Games: Kenbucky Roller Derby #2 & #3

We return to the cutthroat world of G5 roller derby, where Sunny’s trying her darndest to prove she’s more than just a casual skater… and has assembled one of the most ragtag teams of misfits this side of the Mighty Ducks in the process. Let’s see how the story’s developed from there.

    Swan Song

No, not mine. The Barcast's. The last call is currently under way, and if you want to hear my part in the grand interview lightning round, you can tune in at 4:20 Eastern/1:20 Pacific (about an hour from this posting.)

Yes, 4:20 on 4/20. No, I do not partake. Sorry to disappoint. :derpytongue2:

    Pest List

Just something I whipped together for fun one day, set to a possibly recognizable tune, all intended in good fun. And hey, given that I derived my Fimfic handle from a misremembered detail of the Mikado, it's only appropriate. :derpytongue2:

Friendship is Card Games: d20 Pony, Ch. 9, Pt. 1

Goodness, it’s been almost two years since I last checked in on Trailblazer’s adventures. IDW putting out comics almost as quickly as I could review them will do that, especially given all of the G5 video media coming out concurrently.

    Conflicted Crossroads

I have an interesting dilemma with an upcoming story, and thus I turn to the Fimfic public (or that portion of it that sees these blogs) for its wisdom.

Friendship is Card Games: Twilight Time · 1:58am Feb 24th, 2014

I emerge from the crucible of PHP/SQL coding, stronger, wiser, and eager to do something that involves far fewer semicolons. No color commentary this week, though I will note that this was a good episode for fanfiction. We actually get to see Diamond Tiara's house, including her pool. Fast food is canon. Scootaloo is often mistaken for miserable on both sides of the fourth wall, and her scooter is officially a piece of crap compared to some of the others in town. (But there's only one Jolene. :scootangel:)

On the other end of things, Scootaloo's tinkering has drawn comparisons to End of Ponies, Twilight's gorging brought to mind Skywriter's Cadance of Cloudsdale collection and the incredible alicorn appetites therein, and Wanderer D has already commented on the Princess of TBD being the most logical choice for teaching Sweetie magic.

And now, the cards:

Take Credit W
Instant
The next time a source of your choice would deal damage this turn, target permanent you control deals that damage instead.
Draw a card.
"Sometimes I amaze myself."
—Diamond Tiara

Attention Horse 1W
Creature — Unicorn
When choosing targets as part of casting a spell or activating an ability, players choose Attention Horse if able.
"There is such a thing as bad publicity, but it's very hard to come by."
—Rarity, Bearer of Generosity
2/3

Feast of the Alicorns 2W
Instant
Target player gains 4 life for each legendary creature on the battlefield.
"Don't worry. The big bad Baron's got nothing to do with this one."
—Pinkie Pie, Bearer of Laughter

Stunned Silence 2W
Enchantment
Legendary spells have split second.
"Consciously, ponies know I'm not that big a deal. But every now and then, they realize I have a horn and wings, and their minds just kind of shut down for a minute."
—Princess Twilight Sparkle

Exclusion Policy 2WW
Enchantment
If a creature would enter the battlefield, exile it for as long as Exclusion Policy is on the battlefield instead.
At the beginning of your upkeep, sacrifice Exclusion Policy unless you pay 1 for each card exiled with it.
"It's not about who comes. It's about who can't."
—Diamond Tiara

Adoring Crowd 3W
Creature — Pony
Whenever a player casts a legendary creature spell, put a +1/+1 counter on Adoring Crowd.
When a legendary creature dies, transform Adoring Crowd.
They build up their heroes in their minds until the real thing can't compare to the dream.
2/2
Angered Horde
(R) Creature — Pony Berserker
Angered Horde attacks each turn if able.
Whenever an opponent casts a spell, put a +1/+1 counter on Angered Horde.
When their idols inevitably disappoint them, their love becomes hate, and nothing will ever satisfy them again.
3/3

Acrobutler 1U
Creature — Pony Advisor
Hexproof
"Will there be anything else, Miss?"
1/2

Lost in Fantasy 1U
Instant
Tap target creature. That creature gains shroud until end of turn.
"Dreams of revenge or Tiara yelling at me. I know which one I'd prefer."
—Sweetie Belle

Silver Sycophant 1U
Creature — Pony Minion
1U, T: The owner of target activated ability copies it. That player may choose new targets for the copy.
"No way! I was just thinking that!"
2/1

Twilight Time 2UU
Sorcery
Take an extra turn after this one. Skip each combat phase of that turn.
"The only thing better than sharing the joy of learning is knowing that the Cutie Mark Crusaders are under adult supervision for a few hours."
—Princess Twilight Sparkle

Reverse Engineer 3U
Sorcery
Search your library for an artifact card and reveal it. You may put that card onto the battlefield if it has the same name as a permanent an opponent controls. Otherwise, put it into your hand. Then shuffle your library.
"I still don't know how to open the box, but I now know how to make one of my own."
—Princess Twilight Sparkle

Debt of Gratitude B
Enchantment
When Debt of Gratitude enters the battlefield, each opponent gains 4 life.
Extort
"Tiara's twistier than a minotaur's corkscrew. She won't do anything unless she gets something out of it."
—Apple Bloom

From the Mouths of Babes 3B
Sorcery
Target player discards a card for each creature he or she controls with power 2 or less.
Children understand the power of words far better than many adults think. Even the unspeakable ones.

Scooter Vanguard 1R
Creature — Pony Knight
Haste
Scooter Vanguard can't block.
They're too busy finding new hangouts to bother staying at the old ones.
2/1

United Chanting 3RR
Instant
Creatures you control get +1/+0 until end of turn for each creature you control.
"Ne'er have I found a surer sign that control of the situation has been irrevocably lost."
—Princess Luna

Apple Family Alchemist 2G
Creature — Pony Wizard
2G, T: Whenever you tap a Forest for mana this turn, add G to your mana pool.
"'All-natural' is just a nice way of saying 'we didn't try very hard.'"
1/2

Animation Irrigation XG
Instant
Target land you control becomes an X/X creature until end of turn. It's still a land.
Some of the greatest alchemical discoveries come from failed experiments.

Combat Unicycle 1
Artifact — Equipment
Equipped creature gets +1/+0, has vigilance, and doesn't untap during its controller's untap step.
Equip 1
To ride one is to become the pinnacle of grace... until you fall off.

Magic Practice UR
Enchantment
Whenever you cast an instant or sorcery spell, put a study counter on Magic Practice.
Remove a study counter from Magic Practice: Add one mana of any color to your mana pool. Spend this mana only to cast instant or sorcery spells.
A journey of a thousand spells begins with but a single broom.

Work the Camera 2(gw)(gw)
Enchantment
Whenever a creature you control becomes the target of a spell or ability, put a +1/+1 counter on that creature.
If you suddenly find yourself in the center of attention, you might as well make the most of it.

Uninvited Guests 2GU
Enchantment
Whenever a player casts a creature spell, that player may pay 2. If he or she doesn't, each other player may put a creature card from his or her hand onto the battlefield.
"Open the door to the Æther carefully. Otherwise, there's no telling what might get in."
—Ditzy Doo

It took me a moment, but since I actually have a copy of "Feast of the Unicorn," I understood the flavour text of "Feast of the Alicorns."

I can't decide whether Feast of the Alicorn would be better as a thing that gave them devour, or not. I'm leaning towards 'not', but it's pretty close.

Homelands reference FTW!

The card I immediately thought of when seeing the episode was this one:

Exploding Apple - 2WW

Instant

Destroy target artifact or enchantment. Tap all creatures that share a controller with it.

Why is Exculsion Policy white? It really doesn't seem like a white type effect.

1868562
Well, we haven't seen them eat anything that moves. Not yet, anyway. :unsuresweetie: Maybe a variant where you sacrifice enchantments? (Mmm, tasty gods...)

1868767
"At least it wasn't tree sap."
—Scootaloo

1869896
It's a mass Journey to Nowhere. How is it not white? :rainbowhuh:

1869915 Link didn't work. And it's really the flavor of it (title, how it's implied it works, flavor text, etc.) that makes it feel very non-white.

1870015
White at its worst is authoritative, restrictive, domineering, and draconian. An Imposing Sovereign makes a sweeping Act of Authority, and the peasantry has no choice but Blind Obedience to the Rule of Law.

1869915
The problem with a variant is that then it wouldn't have the 'devour' keyword, which is what makes it work to begin with.

1870092 Fair enough. Also, ALL the links 404d on me.

*looks at Animation Irrigation* *looks at Horned Hick* Yeah, that works. Did you put that in on purpose, or is it just a happy coincidence?

1887854
A coincidence, though man-lands were the main reason why Wizards printed Horizon Drake.

Plus, now you have a lovely mental image of Rarihick vs. the asthmatic apple seedling.

1887907 You can't hear it, but I am squeeing externally. :pinkiehappy:
