Story Concept: Maledictum Insania: Depths of Black · 8:17pm Feb 11th, 2014
My last story concept had gone by completely unnoticed. Propably because I did not tag it with one of my existing stories.
This time, though, it has something to do with the MI universe! You heard me right! I'm thinking of yet another story inside my main series!
Even though the storyline itself will be done with Maledictum Insania 3: Rebellion Years, there is still much that can be told.
A long time ago, I had a few people come to me asking for a story that tells Obsidian Shards' life. Back then, I declined the request reasoning that it was a way to large timespan to write just a single story about and that I had other priorities. But once MI3 is done, I'm out of projects and have to decide what to write next. So here is my idea.

Among the many reapers that lifed under Mistress Celestia's command, few ever became known. Even fewer left as much of an impression on Equestria's society as Obsidian Shards did. A reaper shrouded in mystery and with a heart colder than ice. How could a little black colt turn into something that was both a hero and a villian in life? What made this innocent soul become a monster? After piecing together every bit of information available, the Canterlot Archive proudly presents "Depths of Black", a chronicle dedicated to Obsidian Shards, the reaper who forever changed the role of reapers in pony society.
The story would contain a big piece of focus on Obsidian's early years as a reaper, how he slowly shaped into the cold-hearted killer he became known for and how he gained his enormous distrust towards ponies. It would lead all the way from the moment Obsidian turned into a reaper to the day he moved to Ponyville for his final mission.
As usual, before I even consider starting to write a concept for this story, I first want to hear what my readers think. Are you interested in reading about the life of the black stallion? Leave a comment with your answer, possible questions or things you would like to see happening.
Finally, speaking of things happening. You may have noticed that Cupcake Factory is going very slowly lately. Right now, it is at a complete halt due to lack of ideas. If you want this story to continue, I need a couple more requests, ideas and possible scenarios. While I do believe my black humor is rather decent, it is completely up to you people to keep Cupcake Factory alife and running.
Oh and if you wonder, the image is actually the first piece of fan art I ever got for the MI series.
For some reason, I don't have photoshop on my computer anymore, so I couldn't make a cover image quite yet.
But seing as it isn't even clear if I will actually write this story or not, it would just be wasted effort for the moment anyway.
So yeah, leave a comment and let me hear your thoughts on "Depths of Black" and maybe suggestions for "Cupcake Factory".

That sounds amazing :D and I actually finally got around to making a profile so I could keep up to date on your stories. And also, I think your previous concept also sounded intriguing
I've enjoyed your awesome work with the entire MI series so far. Not sure about this though, since most of his background story was explained in MI1. Unless he somehow shaped a lot more events, leading from MITC to MI1.
I kinda liked Obsidian Shards. But after I finished reading MI1 and read a few chapters of MI2, I sort of not thought about him. Except I'm guessing that the mystery figure, who Fluttershy sees in MI2, is him. But it is yet to be revealed.
I think a story about his life might just work well. Him learning his reaper abilities and maybe actually connecting the elements later in some way. Maybe, he even meets the mane six parents in the shadows.
If you do decide to write it though, I'll be happy to read it.

Season 4 is great in terms of entertainment, but very poor in terms of inspirational material for the MI universe.
But there were a couple of things so far that I can use. If you think really closely, you might be able to even think of a few things yourself.
As a hint: the biggest inspiration which i definitely will use comes from a pretty short and seemingly unimpressive scene from the episode Pinkie Pride. This one little scene is a massive game-changer.
