    Modifications to Choosing Magics

...Right, so I've been thinking (yes, just because I don't update in Celestia only knows how long, doesn't mean I don't think about what I'm going to do), and I think I'm going to make some changes to the abilites of the Equestrians, especially the artifacts they will eventually receive.

    Choosing Magics

To anyone reading this, a question: What magics should our beloved ponies learn in my fic: "In a Strange Land"?

    So far, my ideas are:

Rewrite...? · 12:50am Feb 5th, 2014

...So I'm still alive. I also have a bit of a problem:

While working on the next chapter of In a Strange Land, I hit a bit of a writer's block and decided to write bits and pieces of what was vaguely shaping up as an AU to IaSL, one where, instead of Twilight and the girls ending up on HP!Earth, Harry ends up in Equestria. Well, one thing led to another, and suddenly I have a prologue and the first chapter done, with a second chapter well on its way. What's more, my muse, fickle bitch that she is (no, I'm not wearing a bunny mask right now, nor have I developed a desire to cover people in plaster...), has taken it upon herself to get off her fat ass and take an interest, causing quite a few of the ideas I had for IaSL to migrate to this new fic.

Result? I think I might have a rewrite for IaSL in the works.

Of course, now I'm not sure if it should be a rewrite, or its own stand-alone fic. On the one hand, I really want the girls to have to deal with Earth, but on the other hand, I find that this new fic flows better for me. Also, I can always tweak the Magic Mirror so that Twilight and Harry do end up on Earth at some point, though it won't be HP!Earth.

What do you guys think?

As for the fic itself, a summary:

"When a world-weary Harry Potter finally dies, he finds that death really is the 'Next Great Adventure"... literally. He is reborn as a certain green-and-purple dragon, capable of breathing a magical fire not all that dissimilar to Floo travel."

Yeah, Harry is reborn as Spike, and the pairing, much like in IaSL, is Harry/Harem, though no HP girls are featured this time around. It would, essentially, be IaSL in reverse, with some changes to the lore here and there.

As soon as I have enough viewpoints from all of you to make a decision, as well as get the chapters I have bete'd, I will post this new fic on FIMFiction. But until then, do drop off and leave your two cent. The input will be much appreciated. :-)

I really, REALLY like IaSL in the way it's been going. so please don't get rid of it.:pinkiesad2: I'll wait as long as it takes for you to get inspiration, I Pinkie Pie promise.:pinkiehappy: Please go for a stand-alone.

The problem with your new idea is the squick of "Harrys" physical age against all the other characters. Otherwise it is quiet interesting.

The biggest problem I have with this idea is essentially what 1797298 said. If Harry retains his memories, it's going to be hard juxtaposing his mental age with his physical age. This is a plot device that is rarely done well.

That said, if you are going through with this, I would make it a seperate fic entirely, rather than a rewrite of IaSL. I myself would like to see Harry and the girls tear Discord a new one (eventually).

that re-write sounds similar to Soul of a Dragon by Emma Iveli. The main difference being that only Harry shows up in yours, no-one else from the HP universe shows up right? Otherwise I agree with everything Leo said above.

Actually, after thinking about it the only similarity is Harry being reincarnated as Spike.

I agree with Leo Archon and Joker741.
