Thoughts on Legacy of Dragons and Knights · 2:14am Feb 3rd, 2014
Recently I have been rethinking about my first story and before anyone jumps to conclusions, no, I'm not going to abandon it. Every since I first started this story I had written it in present tense, as a way to make my first mark on this site. Though as my story picked up speed in characters, length, and plot it made an already hard task even harder. I've been thinking about writing this story in past tense from now on and editing the older chapters to match the future chapters.
I would like ask you, the fans of LDK, both ones that just recently found my story and those that have been with it since the beginning, your opinions on this subject.
keep it present
For the most part, make it present. You have it as a first-person POV, so it would be a little strange to me to all of a sudden have the story begin to converse like what is happening to Spike and gang has already happened, and he's just telling us war stories. Yes, past tense has it's times, but for the most part, stay present. It's basically from Spike and friends's viewpoint, right?
Present tense also seems to me to help write and invoke emotions and suspense, like when something completely out of the blue happens, you have the characters in question there to immediately comment on what's happening, without any chance to PC thoughts or ideas. It feels more organic that way to me. And I like it when it's more like I'm out there with the characters, rather than just feel like I'm on the sidelines.
I think past tense would be good idea
For the most make it present, but stuff like the people's dream sequences make them past tense
