Leitmotifs · 4:22am Jan 20th, 2014

TheJediMasterEd, whom most of you are still not watching—I assume because you fear culture and wit—has just given us his choice of leitmotifs (well, songs) for the mane 6. It's beautiful, heartwarming, and cultured. I must subvert it. Let's come up with a leitmotif for each pony from Pink Floyd's The Wall!

:fluttershysad:
Fluttershy's song reveals the source of her fearful and reclusive personality:

:twilightangry2:
Twilight, finally realizing that the princesses have been controlling and using her all her life, rebels against her life of scholarship and becomes the leader of a gang of unicorn hoodlums, so her song is "Another Brick in the Wall (We don't need no education)"

:ajbemused: Applejack joins the Earth Pony Nationalist Party to lobby against cider magically mass-produced by unicorns and leads the infamous Ponyville brown-hats on a purge of shops selling imports from Canterlot, so of course her song is "Run Like Hell":

:raritystarry:
Rarity's song isn't hard to guess:

:pinkiecrazy:
You might think her song would be "The Happiest Days of our Lives". But Pinkamina has so many other choices on this album after her complete schizophrenic breakdown! I'm tempted to go with "The Thin Ice", but I think this is a more exciting glazzy at some of that horrorshow old bipolar-Pinkie ultra-partying!

:rainbowderp:
After Pinkamina cut off her wings, what else could Rainbow's song be but this?

.

But seriously, let's close with a genuine reminder that friendship is magic:

You make a good and rectifiable point, BH.

Also, no use of The Trial?

I am disappoint.:ajsleepy:

"...and this is what the transfer function looks like when we transform from the Jedi Master Ed domain to the Bad Horse domain. Any questions?"

That's for Twilight/Celestia.

It's beautiful, heartwarming, and cultured. I must subvert it.

Elegantly stated. This is one of the reasons I come here to pester you, BH.

Also now watching Jedi Master Ed. Thanks for the reminder. :yay:

Incidentally, if any of y'all get a chance to go see Roger Waters doing The Wall live, I recommend it.

Ah yes, a reference to dear old Ozzie Mosley and the British Union of Fascists, whose symbol has been appropriated by the Grateful Dead and Marilyn Manson:*

(It was supposed to symbolize the "lightning bolt of Action within the circle of Unity," but everyone just called it 'the old flash-in-the-pan." Everyone was right).

Speaking of whom: you ever seen the Ian McKellan Richard III? It's Shakespeare as alternate-history SF, imagining that the Spanish Civil War had been fought instead in England, caused by Edward VIII's abdication, thus creating a jonbar point which brought about (inter much alia) Mosley's ascent to the throne:

(The day after I saw this very scene I heard Sir Ian had been picked to play Gandalf. "Ooh, this ought to be interesting," says I to meself. Meself was right.)

* It was also the symbol for the drug "nuke" in Robocop II. YES I SAW ROBOCOP II AND I'VE JUST DECIDED TO ACCEPT THAT ABOUT MYSELF after years of therapy...

P.S.--we seriously need an 80's MTV Rarity. :raritystarry:

1741351 I have that movie in my queue; I'm working my way through all the Criterion collection chronologically (so it may be a while before I get to it). I knew that Floyd and the Dead had used that logo, but I didn't Manson had (not a fan of his music, so I don't know a thing about his branding). Good to know.

As to Robocop, at least it wasn't III.

"Hi, Mr. Horse?...okay, Bad, yes, thanks...this is Britney at JediEd...yes, about your application? For 'Subversive Applejack Leitmotif?'...yes...they've decided to go with another candidate...I'm so sorry. We'll keep your résumé on file..."

Thank you sir, for leading me to that song.
