So yeah, three weeks since the last chapter. Ouch! I really thought I could keep up a faster pace. It's hard at times though. Part of that is because real life has kept me busier than usual. But if I'm completely honest, I just got a bit scared too. This is a crucial point for the story, and I can't deny that self-doubt lead to procrastination. The good news is that I think I'm past that (at least for now.) I have 8,000+ words written for upcoming chapters. The problem is that I say "chapters" as a plural. We're definitely not hitting Manehatten next update like I originally said in the author notes from last chapter. That Manehatten chapter is still coming, and has not really changed, but I've decided there's some more story I need to get out there first. What is most likely at this point is a short chapter (about 4,000 words) that's mostly some glue going into a longer flashback chapter called "Rock Candy," set a few years after Rupert (or about 8 years in the past by the current timeline.) The "glue" is written, and with my prereaders for review. A decent chunk of the flashback is as well, though that will probably grow quite a bit over the next few days, since the muse is playing nice, and the words are flowing pretty quickly.
The current plan is to put that glue chapter up once I get the nod from editors. Hopefully in a couple of days at most, unless they completely veto my current concept as stupid. After that, I think I can finish the flashback chapter in another couple of days, probably coming in at around 7-10k words. That would hopefully mean it can go up by next weekend (again, unless I really end up sucking and my prereaders tell me to trash it.) I know that's not exactly the fast-paced updates everyone (including me) would like, but I'm still trying to get there.
On a side note, just let me say thank you all so much for your patience and readership. As a reader, I know how frustrating it is when a story you follow starts to lag, but the continually encouraging comments and kind words this community has provided is nothing short of wonderful!
Meanwhile, and in other news... Have I mentioned I'm on the writing track staff for Everfree Northwest this year? Well, I am! It's an awesome convention in Seattle this July and you should all attend. We'll have guests from both the show itself, as well as many famous fandom authors. We'll be holding community contests and other exciting stuff leading up to the convention as well. To keep on top of things, you should join the Everfree group here on fimfic and keep an eye on the forums, as well as the official site, everfreenw.com
Oh, and my friend Piquo Pie (coincidentally, head of the EFNW writing track) has started a youtube channel which will be featuring writing advice from various source, both in and out of the pony fandom. He'd love for you to give it a look!
Lastly... yes, I've still got Ministry of A.S.S. on the back burner somewhere, but it's lowest priority. My sincere apologies to those of you that volunteered to help me edit that. I'll come begging with hat in hand if I ever dig myself out enough to try and make that publishable.
