I was thinking about the human character in Hunters, Wanderers, Hucksters and Monsters, Gunner, and I figured I'd get your opinion on some concepts and put it to a vote. Gunner in all cases, thanks to the nature of his arrival in Equestria and past adventures, has infinite ammunition for his weapon, a gun naturally, but the focus of the story will remain on Lyra and the others, rather than the human with the weapon that can splatter a goodly amount of the native wildlife.
Humans in my headcanon for this story also have a robust passive resistance to magic which came at the cost of actual spell-casting ability. They can however, passively channel magic from the environment into their weapons, making them much deadlier in the process. A fact that Gunner will initially be unaware of.
Here's the options:
-Shotgunner: Gunner carries a rather cinematic AA-12 with Explosive rounds. Gunner's influence is as something that can turn his enemies into piles of quivering meat chunks.
-Machinegunner: Gunner carries a modified MG3. Considering the weapon's history, much of Gunner's effect on ponies and other creatures will be psychological from the noise.
-Anti Material Gunner: Gunner carries a Barret M95 and his influence is felt in the long-range death he deals beyond the mundane and magical sight of his targets.
-Rifle Gunner: Gunner carries an AEK-971 with grenade launcher. His influence is felt as a stoic anchor at the heart of the fighting, a solid foundation for any battlefield tactic.
-Flame Gunner: Ponies and other races fear Dragons for a reason. Gunner on the other hand, puts fear into Dragons with a restored ROKS-3 flamethrower.
-Write In: If you think I should go with something more futuristic or you have a better idea for a weapon, please feel free to tell me.
Sub-machine Gunner: Gunner carries a slightly modified P90. His influence in a fight is his agility, becoming all but a blur whose presence means rapid fire death to his enemies.
Also, I believe you mean MG 44 in the machine gunner section.
Either that or he wields an XCOM-like laser assault rifle. Or maybe just a G63 carbine and some grenades.

What do you think of the XCOM-esque laser rifle idea? I think that would make a very good weapon for fighting various dangerous creatures, and infinite ammo can just be handwaved as it having an on board generator that recharges it's batteries as it fires.
