So I finally started reading Paradise recently and HOLY CRAP is it awesome. You should read it right now if you haven't already; to be honest I'm not entirely certain why I'm typing up this blog instead of reading more of it. It's probably so that I can feel like I'm actually doing something. Even though the something I should be doing is my Accounting. But forget that, right? I can always do it later...

As Sethisto often says, you ponies are full of words. My fanfic reading spreadsheet (props to the brony who maintains that) tells me I've read about 60 fics and have started but not finished reading an additional 30, leaving over 1000 that I haven't even touched. Even removing the Shipping stories and anything rate below 5 stars on EQD, that still leaves a good number of stories that I'm certain are worth the time to read. I probably will never read them all, but I don't think anypony can.

Some fic recommendations that I can make (most of these links go to EQD, because that's where I do most of my reading):

Tier 1 - Must read
It's A Dangerous Business, Going Out Your Door (among the greatest ponyfics ever - this is required reading, you guys)
The Purloined Pony (a CYOA about Carrot Top that feels just like the 80s Choose Your Own Adventure series)
Fallout: Equestria (first fic I ever read; it's worth all the hype, but it's long as all hell)
Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons (a good fanfic of the above fanfic that's also long as hell)
Bubbles (you will cry. A lot)
Luna's Goodwill Tour (read it if you like Earth ponies, or if you like Luna)
Paradise (of course)
The Vinyl Scratch Tapes (one of the few shippy fics good enough for me to soldier through - thankfully shipping isn't the only focus of the story, and the humour rather makes up for what shipping there is)
Half The Day Is Night (a nice story about Luna that feels just like a multi-part episode might)

Tier 2 - Pretty great
Sunny Skies All Day Long (fairly short, and could pass for an actual episode)
The Logical Option (second fic I ever read; a story about an OC that had all the makings of a Marty Stu but somehow wasn't one)
Ponies Discover /co/ (original flavour plus weird Internet shenanigans - it has some priceless moments)
Better Living Through Science And Ponies (a Portal crossover that gets GLaDOS's voice perfect)
Nightmare State Of Mind (weird alternate future oneshot by the guy who did Dangerous Business - a fascinating read)
Severing (darkest thing on this list - it's heartwrenching, but strangely compelling)
My Little Metro (I guess between this, Antipodes and Fallout: Equestria, I've established myself as a fan of pony apocalypse fics. Yeah. They're awesome. I haven't even played Metro 2033, but this is still an awesome fic)
The Midnight Run (short, bizarre, and strangely beautiful)
Jack and the Ponies (more of a Samurai Jack story in tone than a pony one, but that's not a bad thing at all)

Tier 3 - Compelling, if flawed in some aspects
Antipodes (pretty cool story about OC ponies in the future - the central idea is the most compelling aspect - this and Dangerous Business were big influences on my own fic)
Lower Deck Chronicles (takes the format of the Cutiemark Chronicles episode (one of my favourites) and uses it on a whole bunch of background ponies, with surprisingly cool and varied results)
The Empty Room (weirdest thing on this list - the bizarre and complex character changes make this feel like what happens when a really disturbed kid plays with his sister's pony dolls, using them as action figures)
A Clever Pony (genius concept)

Tier Nyx
Past Sins (overhyped to insane levels, but not a bad fic - read it to have an opinion)

And maybe you could also check out my own fic, Long Distance (now accepted on EQD!). It's not, as my avatar might suggest, an Adventure Time crossover, even though that would be pretty mathematical. It is, however, about OC ponies (and a zebra) and their travels through and out of Equestria. If you're not into OC ponies, you could always skip ahead to the two scenes with the Princesses I've written so far. Luna's in one of them: everypony loves Luna, right?

Once you're done with all that, have a look at my pal TheLunarArmy's Naruto crossover fic if you're into that (I personally don't watch Naruto (or any anime), but in the process of helping Lunar with editing and junk, I've come to the conclusion that it's an alright fic for people with no knowledge of half the source material to read, provided you don't think about the prologue too hard).
