Buuuut, This guy, Kaze_No_Saga, is, he tells me, a professional translator with years of experience.

And he is currently translating An Affliction of the Heart into Russian.

It's over here, and for some reason... pony stuff seems to be pretty big in Russia!

I've gotten some of my most scathing reviews from Russian fans, written, of course, in Russian. I had to use a translator to even read the reviews (and they were hilarious). My favorite line from one reviewer (whom I think is the equivalent of Yahtzee for Russian pony fanfiction - his goal is to be crushingly critical), was 'love is lick-linoleum'.

I don't even know! But it's hilarious.

Ok, I found a clue as to what he might be talking about here.

Even the relationship went, to put it mildly, not too romantic - well, that's who in their right mind will seem especially tempting licking chitin, which itself is the bearer of it compares with linoleum?

So, I think he's referring to the comparison of chitin (changeling hide) to linoleum. And apparently lovers lick each other constantly to show they love each other. (OK, that last part was a bit embellished, but you get the point.)

Overall, he makes some really good points. He's just looking at it with a magnifying glass (as a critic should).

I can't read MLP in russian despite it being my native. And believe me, I tried. But the comments... They should be really, really good. As I've found, russian people tend to favour the 'pedal-to-the-metal' approach in reviews.

Давно я откладывал прочтение этого фанфика на будущее, но он оказался во второй части подборки про “румантику”. И, как оказалось, не зря откладывал же. Впрочем, давайте по порядку. Для начала немного об авторе, который неожиданно плодовит… клопфиками. Под них отведена даже целая вселенная, где каждый может найти себе что-нибудь по душе. И они пользуются очень стабильным спросом. Как вам, например, такие цифры: Trigger warning! Falcon = 775\66. Говорит ли это что-то об авторе? Ну, наверное, ему хорошо удаются постельные сцены. Но распространяется ли его талант и на что-то другое?

Как показала практика, нет. И это учитывая заоблачный рейтинг самого произведения. Почему же так получается? Я частенько задаю себе подобный вопрос и частенько на него отвечаю. К сожалению, для большинства, “Аффликшен” действительно является романтической историей. Он написан для широкой аудитории человеком, вполне очевидно, не испытавшим настоящих чувств. Нет, ну серьёзно, всякое конечно бывает, но такое построение отношений уже практически за гранью реальности. Ладно…

Начинается всё в принципе довольно прозаично, стражник-пегас спасает чейнджлинга и запирает её у себя дома. Объяснения, почему он это сделал… Натянутые. Как и очень многое другое в этом фанфике, что на мой взгляд и является его основным минусом. Так вот, в двух словах, он её спасает, потому что сам тряпка, рохля и слюнтяй. Милейший персонаж, который будет раздражать нас на протяжении всего повествования этими милыми чертами своего характера. Браво, надеюсь никто не захочет себя ассоциировать с подобным типажом.

К счастью второй герой (героиня) явно получше. Единственное, о чём хотелось бы высказаться положительно. Она получилась умной, смелой, ироничной, замечательной, перечисление положительных качеств можно продолжить ещё очень долго. Один только нюанс отмечу. Рохля-слюнтяй “in love” со сборником положительных качеств. Ничего не напоминает?

Дальше конечно же идёт сюжет, который вроде бы и есть, но в то же время его нет. Сконцентрировано всё естественно на развитии отношений нашей сладкой парочки, о котором тоже скажу, но чуть позднее. Но где-то под конец автор внезапно вспоминает, что у него же масштабная работа и там должно быть что-то ещё! И появляется она — “великая угроза” складывающимся отношениям. После которой нас ждёт сеанс преодоления и превозмогания, ну и хэппи энд. Всем спасибо, все свободны.

Происходящее — стремительно и, как уже говорилось, натянуто. Быстрое развитие привязанности. Быстрое развитие привязанности в любофф. Не менее быстрое решение основной проблемы и… Всё. Прочитав фанфик целиком, ненадолго задумываешься: “Что же это всё было?”

Теперь же та часть, ради которой фанфик был выбран. Рррромантика! Помните, была такая жевачка из серии “Love is..” с забавными вкладышами. Так вот, по прочтении этого фанфика я придумал свой слоган. “Любовь это…… лизать линолеум”. Другие мысли почему-то не появились. Ну, ошейники ещё дарить. Утрирую, конечно, но становление отношений у этой парочки выглядит настолько буднично и натянуто, что просто слов нет.

Возможно, я перегибаю палку, особенно на фоне двух других работ из сегодняшней нашей подборки, но “Аффликшен” — откровенно проходное чтиво. Есть у него и продолжение, которое я читать не стану, своё время можно потратить с большей пользой. Таково моё мнение.
