Bronies, Pegasisters, and so-called "special treatment" (Rant) · 3:58am Dec 14th, 2013
A user posted a thread a few days ago about the terms brony and pegasister. The thread itself wasn't problematic, but one user basically said that anyone who uses the term "pegasister" is basically an attention whore seeking special treatment. Really? You just had to go and make that assumption? I've hated the term "brony" since day one, because in my opinion it sounds awful as a word, and is grating on the ears. Some people like me are going to just not like the word. Besides, some people will also not like being referred to by a term that has the term "bro" in it, and the original poster had a good reason for not wanting to be referred as such. In fact, I (partially) take back what I said in that thread, I'll refer to myself as just a pony fan, thank you very much.
I'm not entirely comfortable using the word "brony" for adult fans of MLP in general, but "bronies and pegasisters" is not only tedious, but would get me accused of being binary. I think it's too late now to make a new word for Adult Fan of MLP.

Oh hey, I got a comment on an old blog of mine and forgot about it. It's a little embarrassing, reading it again.
That would be tedious and unnecessary, but what I was upset about most was the notion that people who wanted to use a different term were just attention seekers. It's unfortunate. I still don't like the word "brony", and it still sounds weird and awkward to my ears, but it's far too ingrained by now to do anything about.
