SCREW YOU SETH MCFARLANE!!!!! · 1:24am Dec 7th, 2013

I just watched "Life of Brian" (yes I know I'm a little late for this party) and:

First of all I'm not a hardcore fan of Family guy but I've watched the series enough to like it and actually have fun with most some of the material.

As the time have passed I found specially interesting the Brian character, mostly because he is was a very round a complex character with some development and a decent back story and also the episodes focused in him or him with Stewie usually were the funny ones.

Until a shitty-ass-bull-crap episode happened.

Okay, I can live with the death of a fictional character.
I can live with the replacement of said character with a new one. (both events happened before in other animations and comics)
I can even understand the need of killing a character in order to move on with the story or at least have some new stories to tell. (again, I read comics so this isn't new for me)

BUT KILLING OF THE ONLY LIKABLE CHARACTER IN THE MAIN CAST SERIES IS JUST PLAIN STUPID!!!!!!!

And that's not the worst part, no no no no no, the worst par it's how it happened.

Do anyone remember the death of Optimus Prime or Barry Allen? Both characters died right after having a last chance of showing what they represented, died in the middle of an actual story and also had a memorable and decent goodbye.
Not only that but also their deaths served to their respectives stories to give other characters some really good development, like Rodimus and Wally having rough times filling the roles of Prime and Flash respectively and thus giving really nice pieces of narrative for each media.

Nothing of the adobe happened in Life of Brian. Instead we got a very racist first joke, then a senseless sequence that was only meant to be more sad in retrospective and finally, out of fucking nowhere, a car races over Brian.

Then, when the writers had a chance to make an actual good scene or even a good episode about mortality, wht do they do? They just do some BAD jokes around (seriously? a squirrel and a chicken?) to finally make an even worse funeral scene sacrificing again maturity and drama for even worse comedy. The rest of the chapter is a five months skip to a family still mourning the lost of a member until Lois propose to buy a new dog to practically replace Brian.

Seriously? That's how it's gonna be Mcfarlane? You are stating that doesn't matter if a character dies as long as you can put a new one in his place? You. Are. An ass!

All of this is just a Shark Jump to attract some ratings for a while and it's even worse when you remember that Brian was basically Mcfarlane inside the show. That's right, Seth Mcfarlane killed off the character he even admitted to put more effort to portray in a desperate stunt to have some ratings, after that it's hard to remember that Mcfarlane used to be idealistic enough to join the 2007-2008 writer's strike now simply sells one of his most personal creations only for some views.

And that's without even talking about the replacement, a dry Mary Sue character that's also a racial stereotype. Nice, really nice.

Dedicated to the memory of Brian Griffin.

Umm... Brian Griffin isn't dead.
He's actually coming back.

Yay, a character dies and comes back without any reason whatsoever so all of this has now even less sense than before.
Smooth Mcfarlane, really smooth.

Actually, the rumor for how Brian comes back is that Stewie invents a new way to time travel or Seth does like how South Park did to bring Kenny back. Also, if you re-watch the scene where Brain gets hit by the car; doesn't that car look an awful lot like Brain's own car? Two upcoming episodes feature Brain's name in the title "Brian's a Bad Father" and "Brian the Closer". Most people accept it that they only temporally killed off brain to bolster ratings. It's like an X-men comic book; kill a popular character off to increase sales and then suddenly bring them back in some fashion.

Look my problem isn't with Brian dying or being brought back, my real problem is the episode "Life of Brian" because it was poorly written and even worse directed.

Right when the producers had a real opportunity of having a deep episode about mortality they just do some of the worst jokes I've ever saw in the media. It's like watching a TV version of the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

I can see where you're coming from, but all one has to do is take a look at the past episodes and they'll know that they aren't going to get a deep meaningful episode. At least not without it being littered with tasteless jokes and random cutaways. Even South Park and the Simpson's are more deep than Family Guy and American Dad. The Cleveland Show was the one that broke the camel's back and was cancelled.

When you watch Family Guy, know that it's there for cheap laughs and to make Seth MacFarlane money. There is no deep meaning other than the episode you're currently watching.

Not always, there were some good scenes with an actual meaning. I'm not asking for some deep psychological plot, just some good writing occasionally instead of just stupid after stupid bad joke.

Looks like I'll need to re-watch the series to find these episodes as I cannot think of any.

I don't say whole episodes, but some monologues like Rush Limbaugh talking about the necessity of having more than one point of view on politics or scenes like when Lois realizes than she was being intolerant with the gay marriages without any reason are nice to see.
