Canterlot Aka Things That Make You Feel Dumb

Is it bad that I just realized that Canterlot is a play on the city of Camelot? I've been watching the show for close to three years and my brain never made the connection.

    Blaaaaarrrgggg

For thse I've been in some form of contact with, this may not come as a big surprise, but my life has been all kinds of hectic as of late. Between my phone, apartment, electric, and car payments, I've shelled out a little under $4000 in the last month. It was like the instant I got back from Katsucon, Life said," Had your fun? Well here's a heaping helping of bull dung you have to deal with, so

Sleep Deprivation and Messing With Narrative Perspectives · 7:36am Dec 4th, 2013

It's about 230 in the morning and I've been hashing out something an idea I sent to RB a loooong time ago, when I still e-mailed him. I've sent the premise to a couple people so heres a copy-paste for those whom I forgot to add:

The premise is that Pinkie and the reader are at the very last pages of a book encompassing the adventures of the elements. Pinkie, feeling the end, has a one last talk with the reader

Since I'm too lazy to transfer it to GDocs, here's what I have so far:

"It's beautiful, you know?" I said aloud, making my way toward the crest of the hill." I know it's just words on paper to you, but from here it’s like….I dunno…..like watching the world give the sun a big hug.”

As I reached the bench at the top and sat down, I could feel your slight confusion. Feeling slightly embarrassed, I ran a hoof through my curly mane as I felt my cheeks redden. “Heh. I guess I should leave the similes to Twilight or Rarity. Those two always seem to have a word or phrase that makes something simple like this seem all fancy and smart-sounding.”

Letting my hoof fall back onto the bench, I shifted into a more comfortable position and watched the ponies below slowly make their way from their shops and stalls to their homes. For a while I was mesmerized at the way the waning sunlight caught the edges of the buildings, making them glimmer slightly as the shadows it created slowly lengthed. It was strange. Even with all the small crowds of ponies moving from place to place, saying their hellos and good evenings, the town seemed completely at peace. It was as though the ponies themselves were simply another comforting undertone to the serene melody that was Ponyville.

A thought struck me. “I think I’ve been sitting here for a least a couple minutes, but I wonder how long it must have been for you. Maybe a sentence or two? I doubt I made something worth wasting an entire paragraph, so I guessing it probably took you thirty seconds or so to catch up to me” I said, shifting my gaze from the town to the pale pink and orange sky. A few light clouds dotted the horizon near the Everfree, adding a touch of white to the spectrum of colors. “I wonder if the sky is like this where you are.”

I couldn’t really feel your response, but for some reason, a part of me believed you said “yes.”

“It’s always been one of my favorite things. The sky I mean “ I began, shifting a little “ You probably already know this, but when I was a little fily, I worked on a rock farm with my family. It was hard work, but whenever dusk began to roll in, I would always find time to watch the Sun set. At first, I was just trying to see another Rainboom, but eventually I just watched it just because it was beautiful. It was like, the sun would start to set and *Boom!*” I exclaimed, throwing my forehooves wide. “the same old boring blue and grey sky explode with color and the world around me would seem just a little happier.”

Letting my hooves fall back onto the bench, I let the next few minutes pass in silence.

“Did you know that that was the first time I felt you there as well? Right after Rainbows Rainboom, I mean “ I began, allowing myself a little snicker at my unintentional alliteration. “It was reaaally faint, but I could feel something out there.”

I felt a bit of your worriedness pass through me.

“Oh! Nonononono. It wasn’t like a bad feeling or something…..oh what’s that word again “ I said, tapping my hoof against the wooden bench. “Oppressive! Yeah! It wasn’t like that at all. If I had to describe it…..hmmmmm”

After a minute or two, I finally found my answer.

“It was like that warm feeling I get when I watch a filly or colt enjoy a party I helped plan, like you were happy for me and content but reeeealy far away. It was really nice, even if it was only for an hour or two. But then you disappeared for a long time.”

Well. There you have it. Should I continue?

Should I continue?

Let me say this clearly :pinkiehappy: if you don't continue this idea I´ll search for you, find you, tickle you to a near-death state, then nurse you back to health, apply the water drop torture on you to just before you lose your sanity, then nurse you back to health once again, then I´ll make you watch the Teletubbies until you scream to me to finish your life :scootangel: but I won´t end you that easy :pinkiecrazy:

So after I made my point clear, on to the serious questions, Have you thought on how exactly the reader will interact with Pinkie? as of now you show that Pinkie can feel the emotions of the reader, but what else? Do they find a way to properly have a talk? Grant the reader god-like powers to send messages to Pinkie like suddenly the clouds forming words for her :trollestia: Having a letter delivered to her from the reader? what is the end, is it like the end of the world of ponies once they reach the end of the book? although you kinda hinted that their world was there with the reader in the Sonic Rainboom, then disappear, but that could also just be as to how the book is written

Have you thought on how exactly the reader will interact with Pinkie?

The reader has nearly zero interaction with the Pronking Pink Pony. Aside from the Pinkie feeling some strong emotions from the reader, the entire story will be her talking and commenting on what's happening.

what is the end, is it like the end of the world of ponies once they reach the end of the book?

I plan on the ending being the ending of the story, as weird as that sounds.

This seems really interesting! It's rather confusing at first, but once you realize who's talking it makes much more sense. The idea definitely fits Pinkie, and I like the idea of getting some insight into her fourth-wall-breaking mind.

In short, yes.
