NOW THAT IS HOW YOU FUCKING OPEN A SEASON.

Oh man where to start. It's like they took all of the headcanons they could find, blended the best stuff together, and made it animated! The resemblance many scenes bore to such fan works as the "Lullaby for a Princess" animation in the works were uncanny and awesome, and everypony's reaction to Twilight becoming a princess was pretty much exactly what most of the good fanfics/stories portrayed between seasons. Discord's role was absolutely brilliant, I love that even after his reform they not once undermine either his personality or just how much of a badass he is. In fact, with those flashback scenes, they may have even ramped him up a bit, as the royal sisters looked pretty beat up before they got to him. Also, dem princesses! I was dying for both of them to have more dialogue and screen time and in just the first two episodes they've already delivered. I also may or may not be (incredibly) happy that Luna was shown as the bad guy when she became Nightmare Moon, and not the poor, misunderstood victim that all these baseless fanboys and girls seem to think she is. If I'm going to like Luna, I want to like her for who she is, not who everyone pretends she is, especially when that means treating Celestia like some kind of tyrant.
Oh, and let's talk about that ending, shall we? If anyone thought that ominous little tidbit with the book in season 3 was a great setup, that lock box was an AMAZING FUCKING SETUP for season 4. When they had to give up their elements, I was wondering "what are they going to do now?" to which I was immediately answered. I mean I don't know about you guys, but I want to know what's in that box. I really want to fucking know. Is it something more powerful than the elements? Does it have to do with where they came from? Maybe it's the next villain, and the Mane 6 are unwittingly letting him/her loose? I think there are some out there who are upset the Mane 6 lost their elements and everything's different now, but that's why these guys are writers at DHX and you're not. You can't tell a great story without change, and it's very clear that they have a well thought-out plan. And I'm dying to know what it is.
I'm sure ya'll are getting a million and one notifications about this, but I just needed to gush. This shit made my day, which after an especially rough couple of weeks, was a very welcome change.
