New Monster Idea, new weapon idea for Flight of the Valkyrie

    Only clue:
    Beware the Jabberwock, my son,
The jaws that bite, the claws that snatch!
Beware the jubjub bird, and shun
    The frumious Bandersnatch
He took his vorpal sword in hand:
Long time the manxome foe he sought --
So rested he by the Tumtum tree,
    And stood awhile in thought.
And, as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,

Holy Magic: How it Works · 4:04pm Oct 30th, 2013

It has come to my attention that some of my readers do not understand the mechanism by which the Valkyrie's Holy Magic works, or that they don't even recognize it as magic.

So allow me to explain.

Holy Mages, like Eir, use the "Language of the Birds" to utilize their magic. This language is the language of creation, and speaks to the very essence of what a thing is, invoking its true name in that language. Anyone who hears it immediately understands it, no matter what languages they do or don't speak, because the language is spoken and heard by the soul rather than the mind.

With this language, a simple battle song can cause a person who has never fought before not to fear an army of nine-foot-tall monster wolves or a giant shadow wolf, or cause memories that were blocked out by alcohol to be revealed in the form of a vision. Just to name things that have happened so far in my story with this magic.

It can command a person to perform an action, as long as they are not actively guarding against this specific type of magic. This is because it's not telling you what to do, it is telling you what will happen. As soon as a sentence is spoken in this language, the action or command attached to it simply is, the same way that the laws that govern the universe simply are.

The Language can do almost anything, except kill or directly cause the destruction of an object or person unless the product of that action is the direct salvation of another life. This is due to it being the language of creation, the utter opposite of the language of destruction. (Hint: That's gonna come into play later).

The downside to this magic is that if you miscast a spell, or are unspecific, the magic will find the least costly way to perform an action. Such as, if one wanted to heal a mortal wound but did not specify how, the magic would steal the caster's life energy and give it to the wounded person to heal, effectively killing the caster.

Because of this, a Holy Spell takes a long time to craft, and a Holy Mage must be protected while casting as they cannot protect themselves while channeling the magic. A Holy Mage will not go out into the field without a personal bodyguard to protect them, and while they are on the field they are only useful in the buffer role of combat.

This magic was a gift to the Valkyries from the now-dormant Alicorn Goddess, Truth, who possessed the languages of creation, chaos, harmony, and destruction. Each language manifests in different ways, such as Holy magic's need for physical speech and the golden glow that accompanies its use. But, I'm getting into later aspects of my story.

At any rate, that's my little spiel about my story's magic. Tell me if you found any inconsistencies or if you think I could improve something, please!
