    Watch (This) Space

    Hello everyone!

I've been gone on hiatus for a few years. I stopped watching My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic in the middle of the seventh season. But a few months ago, my interest was rekindled. And the last two seasons were fantastic. The high point, for me, is the new characters -- the Student Six -- who breathed fresh life into the show.

A Glimpse of the Wasteland · 9:45am Oct 24th, 2013

I'm working on something for my next blog post (which may have to do with the Crystal Empire :raritywink: ), but it may take some extra time due to its size and nature... not to mention the fact that I'll be gone to a convention this weekend. So in the meantime, I wanted to share this:

Ah, yes... I think I remember you linking to this in the IRC before. Pretty amazing.

Geese that videos really sad.
the guy at the end though, thats some fucking dedication right there

Kind of chilling to realise the wasteland we are so familiar with existed in pockets outside science fiction.

Well that's a lovely glimpse into the future. Though I often think such perspectives aren't that helpful as no one will be around to deal with them.

I mean it's a matter of scale, sure you could say everything we do is utterly insignificant in comparison to large astronomical bodies in space orbiting and exploding and such. Or perhaps that in the vastness of time all we are is dust and that the end is Bill Nye.
But he's a pretty cool guy so i'm willing to go with that.

Seriously though there's not a lot we can do about that. So i'll just keep playing with things in this snippet of time, just like that sadly crazy and wonderful guy who made that huge temple or whatever it is in the video.

No idea if any of that made sense, i'm tired, this video is weird and i'm slightly drunk. So i'll go home now.

Probably one of the most interesting videos I've seen in quite a while. Some of the footage looked like someone ripped it out of the first Fallout and updated the graphics.

Rush and Pony on!
T4E

Apparently there's a documentary about the area. Might be worth watching for those interested.

Aaaand I accidentally double posted. Whoops.

Defintily an interesting place to be. Probably easier to roam then Pripyat.

Btw, that must be the place where Lindsey Sterling the guys (and gal) of Pentatonix filmed their cover of Radioactive.

I kinda want to go on a hiking trip there while listening to the New Vegas soundtrack.

That guy at the end, that's a great counterpoint. The wasteland needs some of that too.

The 2010 United States Census reported that Salton City had a population of 3,763. :twilightoops:

You certainly know how to tease the readers, don't you, Kkat? :raritywink:
Good luck and have fun at the convention!

As terrible as this might sound - that was _beautiful_.
And I'm not just talking about the madman who lives in a sculpture.
That 'end' sign standing at the... well, end of a cracked and broken road, surrounded by miles of dead ground. I just stared at that in awe for a few moments. My next coherent thought was something along the lines of 'I wish I could take my bike there'. Except, knowing my luck, I'd probably miss the sign that tells me I'm about to head onto the abandoned military test site.

Also, I'm rather curious now; what possible use could one have for _half_ of a car?

I think we just found the shooting location for a Fallout movie scene.

But seriously, good find. It's truly a wonder; A beautiful deathtrap

...I really can't say anything that hasn't already been said.

War Agricultural accidents. Agricultural accidents never changes.

Jaw open.

Hot damn, this isn't far from where I live. I find it both amazing and terrifying how we can have a miniature apocalypse right in our backyards. :unsuresweetie:

The Earth moves on.

Damn, gotta mark down going there right after Centralia. Places like these serve as a grim reminder that maybe we shouldn't build towns on ticking time bombs, yet the aftermath is serene. Pretty bitter-sweet. Oh yeah, and getting hyped as hell for that blog post :pinkiehappy:.

The beginning, those amazing views of the desert, reminded me of where I grew up. The desert is my favorite environment, so much beauty that most people never even see.

Great video! I've been to the Salton Sea a few times to take photos, and it's always creepy in just slightly different ways. There's a sense of oppression, a sense of being watched. There are unending beaches of bones.

Plus, it STINKS!

---

It's also right next to Joshua Tree and Box Canyon, which are really majestic places.

Wow. Yikes. The beaches of fish bones, the house sinking into a pit of green sludge... that is so creepy, if I hadn't just seen it, I wouldn't believe it! I wonder if Black Isle used that spot for inspiration. It's even got a crazy old ghoul...

The car is sheared off cleanly, like someone used a torch or saw to chop off the front half. I would guess it was undriveable, but the front wheels still worked, and all the valuable parts were in the front, so someone just made a trailer out of it.

I want to make a joke about the Highwayman, but I'm coming up blank.

In the grand scheme of things, our own significance may be defined by us, and us alone. Both big and small, a precious and unique moment in a seemingly infinite sea of moments.

I may never get a chance to visit, but the whole place looks sublime.

That might be Detroit today. The first thing I thought of when I watched that video was my recent trip to Detroit. Not insignificant parts of the city were a wasteland of their own.

Wow. I've lived 2 hour drive away from this place for 7 years now, and I did not know it existed. I've never even heard about it.

Man-made catastrophe or not, I just have to pay it a visit at some point. Looks really interesting and eery.

Strangely enough, despite having been born and almost entirely raised in California, I always thought the Salton Sea was a natural product of rainfall and runoff... and never knew anyone had ever tried to make it into a luxury destination.

This is not just a scene of ruin, for me. It's like seeing an alternate reality bleed into my own.

1451546
While there is no comprehensive list, Detroit is home to more than 70 Superfund sites, over 45,000 contaminated Brownfield Sites, and while it might not be acid per se, the Uniroyal site -for example- has pools of oil and cyanide.

I need more post apocalyptic like places in my life

That looked eerily like fallout, as if a raider could pop out of any abandoned building.

Reminded me of Plateau in Fallen Earth. Very eery, but I enjoyed watching the video.

Just got around to watching this, simply amazing.

Kinda reminds me of some really run down areas where I used to live, along with that Abandoned by Disney Creepypasta.

I was born in Arizona, Phoenix to be exact, and lived there for 14 years before we moved to Bluffton, SC. To me, this is home, this is what appeals to me most about the post-apocalypse setting, the look and feel I grew up with, seeing ghost towns, vast expanses of promised death with only a few small places to maybe hide out, the temperatures hot enough to cook food during the day on a sidewalk or car and the nights cold enough to sometimes even freeze, dropping to around 30 to 40 degrees Fahrenheit.

Deserts will consume you, eat you alive, make you suffer and wish for death, but there is a beauty there, a respect you need to have while braving it, to understand it can destroy you if you aren't careful, and will gladly do so as not a single thing that lives in it is anything but some of the toughest and deadliest animals in the USA.

This is my Aesthetic and what most speaks to me in Fallout, the look of civilization lost, the ghosts of the past, their story lost, but with the right searching, the right probing... you can find small parts to connect to, small glimpses into a world older than you, that had a story you can't truly know, but can cherish every piece of the puzzle you find, even if the puzzle is never solved truthfully or fully.
