You know how I said my current job would give me weekends?

    Turns out I LIED! 8D

    Sigh. -_-

But now, after the first of the year, a NEW challenger approaches! Yes, it's a different position, with perhaps the prospect of actual time off. We will see. Hopefully I will get some writing done then.

In the meantime, an awesome artist Halflingpony just gave me some awesome fan art! (Oh dear, poor Vigilance...)

    Good & Bad News

Well! Long time no see, FIMFiction. Well long time no talk at least.

The good news is, I am now in a new job which gives me weekends back (sometimes)!

    Marevel Comics

Or, "What the heck has Fernin been doing all this time?"

Well! As Creideiki so correctly pointed out in my last journal, my lack of uploads has not NECESSARILY implied writing inactivity on my part.

    DANGIT

Ack. The scenario in the opener to the Trixie ep was almost EXACTLY what I was going to use for a changeling-related Trixie story that I planned out four months ago.

And now if I get around to writing it, the scenario will look unoriginal.

Cursessssssssssss this is the "Rainbow Dash as a Drill Sergeant" thing all over again.

    *sigh*

Help Fernin Name Things · 2:39pm Apr 15th, 2012

If you haven't noticed by now, I'm unquestionably, atrociously bad at some things. Let me list two of my personal failings and how they relate to this journal:

1.) Focus- Focussing on finishing a story or following an idea home if I don't sprint through it all in one go. I am TERRIBLE about this. This is why it's taking me so long to do anything with Strange Bedfellows 2, Old vs New's last few chapters (despite already having them plotted out, derp), the long-delayed sequel to Airborne that I've been working on since like November, et cetera. So yeah, those are all going to be a while. Especially with a few inspections and suchlike coming down this next week, oh God. D8

2.) TITLES- I'm bad at them. On this subject, I need your help, dear readers. I'm trying to figure out a title for a rewrite of My Little Marvel.

"But Fernin," you say, "How can you justify rewriting a story that's already finished when you have so many other projects?"

Answer: I can't. BUT I'M DOING IT ANYWAY MUAHAHAHAHAA...

What brought this on? Well, gee, I have no idea at all.

So yeah, I have titles for the three planned 'issues:' Octave Rising, Blind Justice, and Duet-- but danged if I can figure out a good title overall and the aforementioned My Little Marvel seems a little weak. Thoughts?

P.S. I'm pretty sure I'll be able to hack out the Pinkie Pie chapter of Old vs New in the next week or two, though, work permitting. Spoiler: The working title of the upcoming chapter is, May the Best Dash Win! or, Full Metal Pegasus. Believe it or not, I did in fact plot it out before May the Best Pet Win (although I didn't have the title for it until that ep), but let me tell you I was kicking myself for not getting it written earlier when I saw that ep. I would have looked like a frigging prophet. Oh well.

I'm going to make a suggestion almost entirely out of left field:

Heist: A Symphony in Eight Parts

Might work, might not. Just wanted to put it on the table. As for an overarching name for the crossover, would Marvelous Ponies be too trite?

I wish I could help. I'm terrible at titles, too. That's why most of my stories are "exactly what it says on the tin"

Hmm. Since the two "super teams" from Marvel properties are Avengers and Ultimates...

Ultimate Friends, or Avenging Friends?
Super-Equine?
Observations by Pony Stark? (I know, horrible joke... but it might work as a framing device, since a Tony Stark-type character would of course be interested in the ladies.)

I'm usually pretty good with names as long as I'm not trying to think of them at 4am. My advice is pick a name that ties into the central theme of the story (yes, I know common sense) and then try to tie it to the events or characters of the story. As for My Little Marvel, I'll brainstorm on it for a bit. Considering it's about Octavia having a dream about being a supervillain with Vinyl being the superhero.

Only in the original version. In the rewrite I'm playing it completely straight. I.e Vinyl IS a superhero and Octavia IS a supervillain. Y'see, originally My Little Marvel was going to be a four part christmas story, but although I wrote parts 1 and 2, I couldn't figure out what to do for Vinyl's chapter. This resulted in a rewrite to salvage at least PART of what I'd written, resulting in part 1 remaining unpublished and part 2 becoming MLM. Which would make a rewrite of MLM be the SECOND rewrite related to this story concept... :facehoof:

71483
Huh. Well I wouldn't use exactly that (it's not eight parts, lol) but using something to make it sound like the title of a musical piece is a crackerjack idea.

71885 I know. I was just trying to shoehorn in an "eight" in there because Dr. Octaviapus.

...belatedly, closing the loop-- I ended up calling it Sonata du Octave. Thanks for the help, all.

561646 Belatedly? *checks time of my post*.... 37 weeks is belated? Sweet! I now know what I'm gonna say next time I forget someone's birthday!

"Belated: Adjective. Coming or happening later than should have been the case."

So yes.
