Should I redeem Blueblood? · 11:16pm Dec 4th, 2011
A reviewer on fanfiction.net asked if it would be possible for me to redeem Blueblood in some fashion, since I'm already doing something like that with Trixie. The problem I see is that Trixie already has... potential for redemption in canon with little to no addition beyond 'coming back and apologizing to certain ponies'. Blueblood... often needs a personality transplant. ;) So I say to you, should I do something with him beyond 'fool at the Gala and cad to Rarity'?
I don't think Blueblood has suffered enough to earn it yet, but you could make him earn it in the story. Have him act like he did at the Gala to Megan in a situation where this will lead to national humiliation, for instance. I'm indifferent to the idea myself, though, so if you don't want to redeem him or even have him show up further, that's up to you.
In my opinion, I think you people greatly exaggerate how bad Blueblood is. Yes, he is spoiled and inconsiderate, but when you get right down to it, he really isn't much worse than Hoity Toity, Jet Set, or Upper Crust. They're just snobbish, upper-class, city ponies. If you don't like them, just stay away from them. They aren't intentionally mean to other ponies, they're just acting how they've been raised.
If you want to write a story where Prince Blueblood ‘redeems‘ himself and maybe falls in love with one of the main cast, you should be careful how you do it. For one thing, you can’t have it be that Princess Celestia sends him to Ponyville to learn modesty and friendship, because he is an adult and has the right to live the life he wants, and make his own choices. The only reason Celestia could send Twilight to Ponyville was because she is her student. Therefore, the only way Blueblood would go to Ponyville, or start acting like a proper gentlecolt, is if he chose to do so himself.
As a suggestion, keep in mind that as long as Blueblood keeps acting rude to mares, then he will probably never get a marefriend. So sooner or later, he might start to see a pattern in how his dates are going, and realize he has to change if he wants to have more lasting relationships with mares.
