Humans and Clothing · 9:10am Oct 15th, 2013
I got to thinking about why humans wear clothing. I really wonder how it got started, and why it continued to happen.
What if we humans actually have developed a mild, at-least, impulse cover ourselves due to the evolutionary process deeming it to contribute to our ability to survive. Yes, I know that social norms also pressure people to wear clothing for various reasons. But I am suspicious that those reasons are not always enough to explain every instance of people wearing clothing. Why do various cultures in remote and cut-off parts of the world still insist on wearing something, even in places where the temperature is perfectly comfortable? I have heard of tribes of cannibals in the Amazon or someplace like that, that still at-least wear loin-cloths, skimpy as they are.
I wonder if anyone has tried testing humans for an innate impulse to cover themselves, without interference from learned behaviors.
Just mentioning this, because the topic of the human nudity taboo come up often in HIE fics.
